Ram in Bios

Hi all
I have the maximus v formula board and recently swapped out to bios 1903. I am runniing g skill sniper ram 1866 but when I try and get into bios and change it to xmp mode the computer shuts down and turns on for 2 seconds then turns off again. It keeps doing this. I have to manually shut computer off and I get the screen saying bios settings are not right. The sniper rem is xmp rated I thought. Is it an issue with the bios flash I did. I did do a cmos and it didnt help. Any ideas
thanks

Simple answer is that when you set the XMP profile your system becomes unstable. The on and off thing is your CPU trying to train the memory.

Please set your XMP frequency manually and change the voltage for the memory to that which is specified. Increase the VCSSA to 1.25

F10 and enter. How does it work now.

Thanks for the reply. Im at work now but will try it when I get home. What might cause the system to be unstable in xmp mode? Should I just let it run the on off thing for a while and see what happens cause I have only let it cycle 5 times before i shut it down and went back to previous setting

There could be any number of reasons why, the key fact is that the IMC is on the CPU. But it is unlikely that your CPU can not manage 1866 kit of ram.

When you get a chance post up how it goes.

I first just loaded optimum settings and it put me at 3.9gh and ram at 1600. All latency's were at auto. All working. cleared cmos and when I went to the bios my cpu was at 3.9 still but the ram was at 1800. I then checked the latency's and all were numbered how they were suppose to be. no more auto. Ran windows no problem so I went back into the bios and changed my ram to 1866 like it was suppose to be at but then I get the cycling on and off after that. Entered bios and put ram back to 1800 and all works. I dont get it....... I tried Vcssa to 1.25 but it ended up not letting me back into bios. Do you think I need to reflash my bios???

Go into your BIOS hit F5 to set defaults,Set AI Overclock Tuner to manual then set up your RAM manually as HiVizMan said. Dram voltage 1.5v, Frequency 1866, and set the first 4 timings in the Dram timing control. Let all other ram timings to auto. Your 3770k should have no trouble with 1866MHz. My 3770k can (I should say could) run my ram at 2732 MHz. XMP and cpu level up make my machine unstable as well.

Hm... 1800MHz for the RAM is pretty strange... - what's the BCLK and the memory strap?

Thanks All. I set AI Overclock to manual and voltage to 1.5, ram to 1866 and timings to the ram and all worked. Kinda not getting the XMP thing not working at all but the ram is set to what its intended to be at now. Now i see CPU level up in the bios. Should that be left to disable. If I change it to auto or 4.6 is it gonna change my ram and it timings?

Zka17 yeah thats what I thought 1800??? BCLK is set to default settings. what happens if I change the bclk? Not sure what memory strap is sorry

BCLK is your base clock. You're using multipliers for the CPU and memory to reach the final clocks.

So, most of the cases the BCLK is set to 100. The you use a CPU multi of 40 to get to 4GHz (100x40).

You can adjust both BCLK and multi step by step for your CPU. For memory there are steps/straps (you can see them when when you click on DRAM frequency), you can not adjust memory multi, just choose from pre-existing straps.

The problem is that with pushing the BCLK, you will push all the clocks in your system. It may happened for some reason that your XMP settings set the BCLK too high and that's why your system became unstable. If you found a stable setting now, just enjoy it!
