raid 0 dosen't use the hole space

hi,
I wondered if its normal when I have a 1TB HDD and 2x 256GB SSD combined into a RAID 0 that it dosen't give me the hole storage capacity. ( Now it says it only has 700 GB instead of nearly 1500GB)

Yes that is normal...the raid will work but will work only at the speed of the slowest disk and will be a multiple in size of the smallest...

This configuration makes no sense at all. RAID0 the SSDs and use the HDD as a non-member RAID drive.

^^^ THIS. When you RAID 0, all the drives will be treated as equal space, so if you have 2x256, and 1x 1tb, the RAID sees it as 3x256, less formatting=700gig. Move your data to something else, as you will have to break the mirror. RAID the 2x256, and leave the 1TB out of the mirror.

Yes, delete the raid....then create a RAID with the two SSDs plugged into the SATA 3 ports ....you can still have the HDD on the intel SATA 2 ports it will be treated as AHCI despite the controller being in RAID mode...i.e. it can still be on the controler but not be part of a RAID set up.

Use the SSDs for OS and your favourite progs and the HDD for storage....

Exactly what the past 4 posts said. Do exactly that, raid the ssds ONLY, and use the hard drive as your secondary drive. I had to read it twice when you first posted it to see if you actually raided a hard drive with an ssd LOL

My 2x90 GB SSD are on ports 1/2 and my 2x1Tb WD drives are on 3/4, I top out at like almost 1.1 Gb/s on the ssds, and 300ish on the WD's, According to Atto anyway.

Good advise from all here. It is always better to RAID the same size and type of hard drive.

A SSD is way quicker than a mechanical drive. So it is always best to only RAID ssd to ssd and mechanical with other mechanical drive.

I don't want to loose all my data do i just backup the raid?? And I don't know how many times my activations code are valid ( WIN 7 / Kaspersky / Office 2013)
