so i rma'd the radeon hd 7970 that the memory was stuck on full blast. and it turned out it was a defect so i got a replacement now.

in return i got a ASUS Radeon R9 380X 4GB Strix Gaming. i've been checking game debate and google but alot of confusing stuff has arisen like google thinks the strix gaming card is OC'd when i look on the retailer page of the guys that send me this replacement it's just an ordinary strix card. i've been trying to look on benchmarks and reviews to know the gains between the 7970 and the R9.

does someone know of a site that has comparison other than game-debate for comparison? or know how much benefit of the 7970 to the R9?

The TechSpot review here should answer your questions.

Note that the 380X in that review is an overclocked one, coming in at 1040MHz core and 1500MHz (6000 effective) memory. The standard Strix is 990MHz (in OC mode) or 970MHz (in Gaming mode) for core and 1425MHz (5700 effective) memory.

hey MDMadman, sry bout the other week:) just thought things got a little stretched from my side there. and i was kinda a little inpatient with my responses.

it was infact a defect in the card from the msg i got from the technical at the rma place. should put that on the check list for plausible reasons stuff doesn't work.

here is the tech details from the retailer https://www.komplett.no/product/865070/datautstyr/skjermkort/pci-express/asus-radeon-r9-380x-4gb-str...

which kinda tells me that it is an OC card. since it's 1050mhz core...
but then again it says actual memory clock 5700mhz.. lol

There are two versions of the Strix card -- one overclocked and one not.

The standard Strix is 990MHz (in OC mode) or 970MHz (in Gaming mode) for core and 1425MHz (5700 effective) memory.
The Strix OC is 1050MHz (in OC mode) or 1030MHz (in Gaming mode) for core and 1425MHz (5700 effective) memory.

The difference is the OC in the model number -- STRIX-R9380X-4G-GAMING versus STRIX-R9380X-OC4G-GAMING.

If you really have (or are getting) the exact one from that page, then it's the OC model -- note the model number in the details section. Plus, all of the review links on the page are for the OC version.

thanks 🙂 i noticed 2 x 6pins power connectors. i have already 2 x 6+2 pins. will they work?

Yep. You just won't use the two-pin extensions on them.
