Question about Sata port 5/6

MOBO: Crosshair 5 Formula

I set my sata in bios to Raid. Im using ports 1/2/3 to Raid 3 SSD Drives.

I plugged my WD Caviar Black into Pot 5. But the Bios wont pick it up.
My Optical Drive is plugged into Sata 6 and works just fine.

How does that work?

Zero.exe, your mobo has two storage drive controllers... the AMD SB950 (controlling the 6 SATA III ports) and the ASMedia ASM1061 controller (being responsible for the last SATA III and the eSATA ports). I think that person was referring to the ASMedia controller... but not sure if you have to worry about it, since that SATA port is the 7th... - the one located separately from the others...

Zka17, thanks for reply.

I think that 7th one is the E-sata port, that I have plugged in the e-sata wire fro the tower into.

Really? No one knows what to do here?

Ports 1-4 are controlled by 1 driver. Set to raid
Ports 5/6 only give me an option for "Raid or IDE" mode.

So according to this post on Hard forum: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1642564

you cant use Raid and Achi at the same time on CHV Formula board. the SB 950 wont allow it.

Well that's certainly gay isn't it folks. I have to pick up an identical drive (that i don't need) and set it up in raid So i can have a storage Drive.

This sucks ass. Really bad ass.

Really I have a raided 1 (2x2TB Hitachi HDD) for storage and a single Samsung 830 SSD for OS on the test bench. I connected all three of the drives same time, selected RAID in the BIOS as my SATA mode and proceeded to install the OS on the single SSD and then set up my storage RAID array.

HiVizMan i worked it out. I posted under the mobo threat and got alot of response and good suggestions. That forum i linked, the guy who posted is horridly wrong.

As it turns out, I will be a big man and admit i cause my own problem. The hard drive i used was once in a raid. So the bios still thought it was a raid drive. I had to delete it from the raid menu.

thanks to anyone who tried to help it was good to work this one out.

Oh hey thanks bud. I was silly to accuse this mobo of being at fault without doing deep research. I wanted to make clear i made the mistakes, not Asus.

Ill help where i can too! I have to say, this build was way out of my tech level. Like doing things like overclocking and running Raid, Ive never done before. But the fact that I could pull it all off so easily (with help from this forum) is a sign of pure craftsmanship from the ROG team.

The way I fixed this was to tell the motherboard to share with SATA.

1. Enter the Bios.
2. Go to the Avanced Tab.
3. Click on Onboard Devices Configuration
4. Find M.2_1 and change it from Auto to SATA56.
5. Press F10 and save settings and Restart.

You should now see your HD in your OS.

I hope that Helps
