PCIe SSD on a Maximus V Gene Board Possible?

Hello,

I came across this today http://www.engadget.com/2015/03/24/kingston-hyperx-predator-ssd/ and wondered if your tech gurus can say for certain if this would run in a Maximus V Gene board? The V Gene is supposed to be PCIe 3.0 compatible and all that's required to run the Kingston HyperX Predator is PCIe 2.0. My machine presently runs 2 x Crucial m5 SSDs.

According to http://ocz.com/consumer/ssd-guide/motherboard-guide V Gene is supported with the stated BIOS revision. Can the board boot to a PCIe slot? Being twice as fast as the Crucial m5 I would want the PCIe SSD to run as C drive.

did you find your answer to that question?
i just installed the kingston pcie ssd into my pc (maximus gene V) and it works execpt that i am getting a strange sata error when i bootup...

You're the first to post an answer. Are you saying other than the boot up error, it's working fine?

What's your setup like? Do you have Windows installed on the new drive or are you using it as storage?

Hi
Sorry for the delay. I used the drive as my windows drive, so my pc is booting on it. When booting, we can see an error message dispaying really fast (i actually had to take a picture of it to read it entirely) and then the pc is booting up ok. I have the latest bios and chipset drivers installed (from the asus support website) . The error message is:
Error SataControllerSupported OpenProtocol gEfiDevicePathProtocolGuid Status F

That error displays really fast just above the ROG logo at bootup, but then it is booting ok. I am just wandering if the drive will really be able to perform as it should if the bios or sata chipset doesnt recognize it?

I am having the same error message with a Crosshair V Formula-Z!
I have the 240GB HyperX Predator with Windows 8.1 on Slot 4 (PCIE_x4) and I have two HD 7950's in Crossfire one in Slot 1 and one in Slot 3.
I have 2 x 500GB HDD in Raid 0 in Sata port 1&3 and 2 x 120GB SSD Raid 0 in Sata Port 2&4.
System seems to run perfectly other than this Error message "Error SataControllerSupported OpenProtocol gEfiDevicePathProtocolGuid Status F" that comes up on start or occasionally on restart.
It's driving me nuts as I always have doubt in my mind that something will fail at some point!
If any one has any ideas that would be great:)

You have actually answered a question I had in mind -- that is, whether PCIe SSD is bootable, which IT IS, as per your experience. I would love to have Windows and my photo editing applications install on that drive, and point scratch disks to the regular SSDs. Please update if and when you manage to fix the boot error codes. Thanks.

Has either of you managed to fix the error you reported yet? I am still thinking about upgrading my SSD and I'm not sure if going from a Crucial m4 128GB to Sandisk Extreme Pro II SSD make any real practical sense. Are your PCIe SSD seriously fast?
