Overclocking problem (Bsod 124)

Firstly my system specs:-

Asus RoG Rapage IV Black edition
i7 4930k @ 4.5 ghz
16 gb (4x4gb) Corsair Vengeance Pro, 2133MHz, CAS 11-11-11-27, 1.5V
EVGA GTX 770 SC
Corsair Force GS 240gb
Corsair H100i
Corsair TX650M
Corsair 750D Case

I ordered this computer from Scan.co.uk as a pre-overclocked bundle (Motherboard, Ram, Cpu, Cooler pre assembled and supposedly burn tested for 24 hours) And have had constant problems with it. When it first arrived it was pre overclocked to 4.7ghz with vcore at 1.375. I would get BSOD when doing barely anything, playing plants vs zombies for instance, and even when idling. So i stepped the multiplier down to 45, with 1.36 vcore and the problem seemed to be fixed. I have been playing Wolfenstein new order, Arma 3, Bioshock infinite without issue. I have run Aida 64 stress test for around 90 mins with no problems. But when i try to use handbrake to convert video, i get BSOD with 124 error code within a few minutes. I am a novice when it comes to overclocking but i have also noticed that my processor is running at 4.5ghz even when im just looking at my desktop. My old PC that was overclocked (it was Asus board with OC profiles in Bios) The processor would step speed down when not being used which i assume will be good for the longevity of my cpu, but i have no idea how to change this.

Sound like you may need some memory tweaking or a bit more vcore. Install CPUZ and core temp and lets get some temps

Hello Meankeys and thank you. I have CPUZ and core temp installed. I have also run memtest previously, took 7 and half hours to complete and returned no errors. What temps is it you want to know? My temps at idle range between 28 and 35, and peak just over 70 when running stability test with Aida 64 (Stress CPU, FPU and cache enabled)

Yes, 0x124 is usually vcore on these processors...it seems that for games your 4.5 OC is stable but not for the higher stress of handbrake...

Could need a touch more VCCSA...

The lack of downclocking might be for a couple of things... is speedstep enabled in the BIOS? or is Performance power plan set in windows...if so go to advanced settings and change "minimum processor state" to 10% say...see if speedstep kicks in...

Of course if you are setting manual voltage...voltage might not drop in line with clocks...you'd have to set an offset or adaptive voltage...but first thing would be to find a manual voltage that is rock stable for anything you want to run at a certain OC....

its very difficult to get a OC fully stable with the majority of the settings on auto (which i suppose they are), try to lower the OC even more. 4200mhz? use a offset vcore
