overclocking intel 4770k

hi.

i might need to help tweaking this processor.

i am currently running this processor @ 4.2 @ 1.2vcore and i have set llc to 6, ram is running at xmp 1600mhz.

anything above 4.2 seems to be a struggle without some heavy vcore, i am doubting if i am covering all tweakings as my oc knowledge isnt pêrfect

i am currently using the 4770k with an asus sabertooth mark 2 and nzxt kraken x61 cooler inside the corsair corbide 450 case and an seasonic 650w psu along an gtx 770

Hello wekseh

You should be able to hit 4.4GHz - 4.5GHz with the kraken x61 cooler.

It should be able to handle up to 1.35v, you could set the cpu core voltage to 1.35v and increase the multiplier until it becomes unstable then back it down, this is if your cooler can handle it and it should be able to.

ROG realbench is a good cpu stress testing program, run only the stress test not the benchmark as it will require more voltage. Don't let stress testing temps go beyond 90c and you'll be fine, gaming temps then should be around 65c - 70c.

im gonna test the cpu with 1.35v and see how far it gets 🙂

i thought 1.35v was rather high?

Well it depends how far you want to overclock, it's safe if you want a higher overclock and can keep temps under control.

I have my 6700k at 4.8GHz with 1.488v.

Let me know how far you're able to get.

i have set the multiplier on 45 with 1.35v and boots up in windows without problems, and normal internet seems fine too.

im having and opncl.dll problem it seems with realbench, maybe i need to reinstall my gfx drivers or smt?

Opencl.dll is a graphics related issue, before reinstalling the driver try playing the most demanding game you have for a bit and see how it goes, if all is well you can leave it where it is.

I know my system won't pass a stress test but it plays all my games fine with no crashes.

Post your gaming temps for me please, if temps are good you can try the multiplier at 46.

played some sc2 lotv, should be cpu related game 🙂

max temp was 63c

That's great temp. 🙂

Have you tried the multiplier at 46 to see if it will go?

What are you using to monitor cpu temps with?

hwmonitor and aida 64 for monitoring.

boots up with a multi of 46 without problems, have not gamed yet or any stress tests.

edit, BSOD with some normal computing, multitasking..

OK you can either back the multiplier down to 45, or give it some more vcore up to 1.40v.

Your temps are good so try 1.36v, 1.37v, 1.38v, 1.39v, 1.40v. if it doesn't stabilize with 1.40v then settle for 4.5GHz.

Don't run a stress test play a game and let me know what your temps are if they're 75c or below you're fine.
