overclocking intel 4770k

hi.

i might need to help tweaking this processor.

i am currently running this processor @ 4.2 @ 1.2vcore and i have set llc to 6, ram is running at xmp 1600mhz.

anything above 4.2 seems to be a struggle without some heavy vcore, i am doubting if i am covering all tweakings as my oc knowledge isnt pêrfect

i am currently using the 4770k with an asus sabertooth mark 2 and nzxt kraken x61 cooler inside the corsair corbide 450 case and an seasonic 650w psu along an gtx 770

just checked @Nate152 and bclk is set to 100.0 in bios, cpuz indeed shows 99.98..

Ok, cpu-z sometimes shows a little lower, was just making sure it was 100.0 in the bios.

Have you tired for 4.6GHz or are you sticking with 4.5GHz?

can not get it 4.6ghz stable even with 1.45 vcore, so i have backed it down to 4.5 @ 1.342vcore

testing done with realbench stresstest., 4.6ghz crashes after 2 mins, 4.5ghz is able to complete the 15m tests. temps around 70c

i have 8gb memory installed but can not do the tresstest with 8gb selected, app crashes? any idea why that is

All right then 4.5GHz at 1.342v it is, no sense in trying 4.6GHz if it's not stable at 1.45v.

That's still a good overclock for the 4770k, a good 4790k can do 4.9GHz at 1.35v but on average expect 4.8GHz. To me it wouldn't justify the price to performance to upgrade to the 4790k.

Keep what you have and upgrade your gpu.

I'm not sure why Realbench is crashing, does it crash at 4.5GHz with 8GB selected?

Yes it does also crash on 4gb on 4.5ghz

If you can pass the 15 minute test at 4.5GHz in realbench I'd call it good.

yes indeed, i am gonna leave my cpu oc at 4.5ghz

might oc my ddr3 abit though, and see what i can get out of that 🙂

dont think i can get much more out of my 770 as it is factory oc'ed maybe 40 mghz or smt if thats worth it
