Overclocking help Crosshair Formula V and AMD 8150

I am doing my first attempt to overclock my system with Crosshair V Formula and AMD 8150 with water cooler. I have now got my system to do 4,2 Ghz by only changing the multiplier (in BIOS) to 22. It seemed stable but on quite heavy LinX-testing I got bluscreen after 15 mins. Temp was 31-39 C in AMD-overdrive and 38-46 C in AMD Chill-control.

I assume I have to increase the CPU-voltage to get any further? I have seen som tutorial videos where they set it to 1,45, would that be OK to try out? A what rate of overclocking do have to start think of adjusting memory timings? On some tutorial videos I see that they change CPU BUS/PEG freq. to 215. Would that be a OK setting to start with?

Will it always also be necessary to increas memory voltage? I have 16 GB RAM of Kingston DDR3 HyperX 1600MHz 16GB (Kit w/4X HyperX 4GB DDR3, CL9-9-9-27, 240pin).

I would appreciate if someone could give me some input. I have read a some articles on overclocking and I understand the importance of testing with ie. LinX and MemTest. Many tutorial videos I have found either regards the 8120 proc. or involves "extreme overclocking", but as I only head for some moderate overclocking I hope to find some values that can get me there relatively safely.

hi there! i really don't have an amd build with me right now but as i believe ocing an amd would not be much of a difference in ocing an intel chip

but the first thing i would like to suggest is to first familiarize yourself with the bios, since it is your first attempt

btw i've been researching and i heard that 8150 is a great overclocker

and here's a guide on how to's CLICKETY HERE, this guide even includes screenies in it, wishing you all the luck in ocing

Hello mate if you have any questions once you go through my guide please feel free to ask away.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Hello and thanks for your response. I have now used your guide. I have been trying to only manipulate the multiplier, CPU BUS/PEG freq and CPU voltage and it seems to work to some degree (cinebench from 5,2 to 7,7), but I am no to sure about the sustainability of my settings, and my FPS in FSX did not convince me that I was on the right track.

I am very much in doubt how to handle the memory factor while overclocking. I do not really want to OC my memory any significantly as I have no memory cooler for the time being. One problem: When I change the CPU BUS/PEG freq the memory frequency automaticly changes. Should my CPU BUS/PEG freq-changes be such that the adjusted memory frequency falls within the range for my memory chips (1333-1600).?

Second question: My memory is supports "Intel XMP", but the product specification tells that this property can also be taken advantage of on AMD-systems but it requires manual overclocking. Does this only mean to set memory freq to 1600? Should I manually change the timings as listed in the product spesifications: "tested to run at DDR-3 at a low latency timing og 9-9-9-27 at 1,65 V"
