Overclocking - Asus RoG G551JM

Hello guys,

I ordered an ASUS 15.6'' ROG G551JM that I plan to use for Photoshop (image editing), some Video Editing, but I will also like to try the last games available. The exact spec of my machine will be:
- 15.6" Full HD, IPS
- Intel i7 4710HQ (2.5 GHz, 4 cores, up to 3.5 with Turbo Boost)
- 4 GB of GeForce GTX 860M with Maxwell arhitecture
- 16 GB of DDR3L RAM
- 256 GB of Kingston SSD

I know that my 860M GPU is more like mid-range so I thought it will be great to OC it a bit, to get some additional FPS in high demanding games. Now... Can you please guide me how to do it? I guess I don't need to OC the CPU too because it looks like the GPU is the bottleneck... so OC-ing the CPU wont have any impact on the performance I assume. Let me know about your opinion please.

Also, if you have any tips of what else to do with my soon-to-be laptop, I will appreciate it a lot.

I will buy an external HDD for some aditional storage and I might install games there and run them directly from the external drive. I heard the cooling system it's pretty good so I think there is no need for additional external cooler. Or should I buy one of that too?

I also plan to make it dual boot with Windows 8.1 and Linux. Oh, I almost forgot... will OCing the laptop cause any real problems? (like losing its warranty or reducing the span life of its components)

Thank you very much! Greatly appreciated!

For standard OC you should use software like Nvidia Inspector. It's easy tuo use.

For more OC you should flash your vBios before (and then use the same software).

I think asus locked these options to OC using any OC programs right ? also still theres no modded Vbios for ROG series .

No, on Gtx 860m you could gain +135 Mhz on core, always. I think on gtx 960m too.
Some time ago Nvidia blocked this, but now it is sblocked.
