OC I7 7700K / No Delid. Safe Temps?

Hey Guys,

so recently tried to OC my I7 , since i use to run it on Default Clock for Ages (4,2GhZ).
Now i would like to know from you Guys what are safe temperatures to run your CPU at for Gaming.

I use Prime 95 as Benchmark / Small FFT.

I was able to go up to 4,6Ghz with a offset of -0.070V this leads to 67C in Prime 95 / FFT.
With this setting , when im gaming my Core reaches around 60C, sometimes peaks up to 64C. You know those Spikes that are typical for the 7700K.
When idle im around 35C and the Ambient temp is 28C at the moment.

I even tried to go up as high as 4,7Ghz and offset of -0.020V, this leads to 71C in Prime and around 65C in Gaming.

Now much higher i wouldnt want to go since i run alot of Games on this Machine and it would be constant at this Temperature.

For Comparison at 4,2Ghz with -0.080V i was able to achieve 50-55C in Maximum Usage.

Now i know higher Power of CPU will lead to higher Temps.

Main Question to you Guys, is that increment from 4,2 to 4,6 or even 4,7ghz worth that higher temperature?
Also id like to know what temps are usual for CPUs when overclocked.

Thanks for taking your Time to read this
Have a nice Day , everyone

Ok in the bios in the CPU Adaptive Mode section...

Enter a negative offset of -0.046v

Test for stability and overshoot.

Thanks for your Reply Nate.

i tried the value -0.046V, this caused a no Boot.
then i entered -0.030V what caused a BSOD in Windows after startup.
Right now i use -0.020V but still the VCore slightly higher at 1.360V

-0.020V caused Instability, Windows went nuts and lagged from time to time. im on -0.010 V now

All right

On the AI Tweaker tab, CPU Power Management, try setting..

IA AC Load Line - .01
IA DC Load Line - .01

See if this puts the voltage any closer to 1.33v.

Thank you so much. 🙂
it is now showing 1.34V , not exact 1.33v but this is much better.
Now it will be time to test for stability

One more question, those temperatures are confusing me in HW Monitor.
There is a CPU Temp underneath Mainboard and then there is a section with Package and the Cores.
Which one is actually the true Temp?

thanks again 🙂

CPU Temp is listed under cpu as

Core 0
Core 1
Core 2
Core 3

For each individual core

Package Temp is the warmest core at any given time.

My 7700k can do 4.8GHz at 1.232v. But 5GHz needs 1.312v

Hi mahanddeem

That's good voltage scaling, if you delidded I could see you hitting 5.2GHz.

Thanks. Didn't feel the need for 5.2 honestly.
On my D15S temp was 80s only gaming at 5GHz. Wasn't a very good experience.

You have a good cooler but..... we're all at the mercy of Intel's thermal paste.

I got an average of -15c by delidding, some are claiming up to -20c, that would let you do 5.0GHz comfortably.

Intel says 85c 24/7 is fine but that's a bit warm for me.
