I want to overclock the CDominator GT to 2400Mhz!

System
Case: CM Storm Trooper
Mobo: Asus Rampage IV Extreme
RAM:CorsairDominator GT 16GB DDR3-2133 CL9 quad kit
CPU: Intel Core I7 3960X
GPU: 3x Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 3GB
SSD1: OCZVertex 3 Max IOPS 120GB
SSD2: OCZ Vertex 4 128 GB
HDD: Samsung 1TB, Samsung 500GB
PSU: EnermaxMaxRevo 80+ 1500W
Monitor: DellUltraSharp U2711
OS: Windows 7 x64.

24/7 Bios
CPU ratio: 46
Bclk freq.: 100
Vcore 1,37V
all DRAM: 1,5V
CPU VCCSA: 1,23
CPU PLL: 1,7V
VTT CPU: 1.2V

I've have tried the bios on auto with the DRAM voltage on 1,65 and DRAM freq on 2400Mhz = failed

Is there anybody who can help me to reach the 2400MHz?

Thnx in advance...

For the time your working on OC'ing the CPU and/or RAM, it would be better to reset your VGAs to default... when you got a stable OC on the RAM and CPU, then you can apply again your VGA settings...

OK, so your VDIMM is at 1.65V... and you have problems with booting into OS... As a next step, I would set the CPU's Vcore to auto too... for some reason, I think the non-booting may be because of the CPU too... otherwise I would expect some Q-codes...

Thnx till so far. I will try this tomorrow!

I tried again with DRAM voltage 1,65V and 2400Mhz and everything on auto. Unfortunately it did not work. It's a pity because evry piece of hardware in this rigg works fine except the corsair dominator's above the speed of XMP 2133Mhz.

We are faced with the possible harsh reality that a) your CPU does not like anything above that 2133MHz limit or b) your ram is not happy.

Now unless you have a mate who has a similar se tup to your X79 CPU, I am at a loss how we are going to find out which it is. Is it possible for you to get your ram tested out in a X79 system? Or to borrow another CPU?
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Hello,

I have the same kit as you. I am running a R4F with a 3820. I don't know if this will work for you as we have a slightly different setup although based on my personal experiences i do believe it (2400mhz) is a matter of your timings and dram voltage moreso than it is about your vcore. Although you will have to bump up your vcore by a notch or two depending on how much your cpu is overclocked. For me, 4.4ghz with 2448mhz (1:18) was my maximum before needing to downscale the ram.

Currently, my kit runs at 2448mhz, 9-11-11-27 1T (subtimings left auto) @ 1.68v. 1t required a slight bump in dram/vcore voltage, though at 2t 1.65v you should be in close proximity of success assuming your timings are on cue. I've also discovered automatic timings may not help if you've set a manual figure for vcore and vtt. auto settings tend to overvolt (in my case i witnessed vtt set to 1.35v in AI suite) and in pursuit of 2400mhz the config needs to be round about right to post successfully.

my vcore is 1.27v under load @ 4.38ghz. Vtt 1.25. Regular LLC.

keep in mind that not all processors will run 2400mhz so i would recommend to you approach this matter by first running a manual 2133mhz configuration 9-11-10-27-2t 1.5v or 10-11-10-27 so afterwards you can find your absolute lowest stable vcore and vtt values... From there on it may just as well be merely a matter of increasing dram bclk and dram voltage with the occasional bump in vcore to re-acquire stability.

You'll know exactly where you're at with your hardware's capabilities. with your CPU, i suspect the average voltage values for vcore and vtt to be a little higher than a 3820.

Relaxing your timings, perhaps to 10-11-11-28 is also advisable before you start increasing your ram speed.

I have a range of other timings/dram frequency/oc configurations that are also rock solid, if you like i can share these with you. Even though the timings may seem OK, the slightest discrepancy on a cold boot can yield overclocking failure so basically work upwards from what you know works.

here's my cpu-z validation.

hope this helps.

Hello Daveo,

Thnx for your good explanation!

I will try this tomorrow and i really hope it works!

Greetings,

Toby

I Followed your advice and i only loosen the timings to 10-11-11-28 and afterwards the system booted up.

I did a memtest at 2400 MHz. No errors found!

Thank You very Much mate!
