Novice getting misleading memory overclock frequencies in UEFI

boneil
Level 7
I manually tried to overclock my RAM to 2666Mhz at 15-15-15-35 timings. Here's an image of UEFI in EZ Mode where DRAM Status says my sticks are running at 2133Mhz.

60732

Here's an image of UEFI in Advanced Mode with Memory Frequency at 2666Mhz.

60733

  • Did I screw up in overclocking my ram speed?
  • I left AI Overclock Tuner set to Auto. Should I have changed that to manual when overclocking RAM?

Hi boneil

Your ram is rated at 3200MHz, 14-14-14-34 timings and 1.35v. You can set it manually or use X.M.P, I prefer manually and it's easy to set up.

Extreme tweaker Tab

1) AI Overclock Tuner - Manual
2) Dram Frequency - 3200MHz
3) Dram voltage - 1.35v
4) CPU VCCIO voltage - 1.20v
5) CPU System Agent voltage - 1.20v

Then go to Dram Timing control and at the very top enter in your timings, there should be three boxes for the timings:

14
14
34
command rate 2

F10 and Enter and cross your fingers it goes. 🙂

If it doesn't want to go raise the vccio and cpu system agent voltages to 1.25v.

Good luck and let us know if this gets your ram running at its rated specs.

I actually wanted to set the RAM frequency to 2666Mhz at 15-15-15-35 timings at 1.2v, even though it could go to 3200Mhz 14-14-14-34 at 1.35v with XMP. The reason for this is because I don't get much of a performance boost past 2666Mhz on my system. So I wanted to set it at 2666Mhz and lower the voltage to 1.2v with a timing of 15-15-15-35. Do you have any instructions pertaining to setting RAM to my preferred timings/frequency/voltage? And can you provide any insight to my previous two questions in my original post?

Knowing is half the battle. Go Joe!

Well if you want to run it there you can, in your 2nd screen shot you have it running at 2666MHz so it looks good to me, you can check the timings in "Dram Timing Control".

It should show:

15
15
35
command rate 2

In all honesty if you're stable with XMP I would just use that but it's up to you.

Check your other page and see if I answered what you wanted. 🙂

Alright, I'm going to leave it at 2666Mhz for the lower voltage. And I have the correct timings inputted as well. I already ran a 24 hour Memtest86 and received no errors. I'm still a little confused about why my DRAM Status is showing 2133MHZ in my first image when I have it specifically set to 2666Mhz.

In the first screen shot under Dram Status it is showing 2133MHz but if you look at the top under information it shows your ram at 2666MHz.

Another novice here: Why are there differences between the 2 sections of the screen (Dram Status & Information)? More importantly, which of these screen sections reflect what the RAM is actually running at?
