Nothing but trouble: Asus Crosshair V Formula -Z 9370

Ok so I bought this build thinking it would be great for me as an audiophile...

It's been awful. My CPUs (both of them: the 965 x4 an the 9370 x8) do not run stable in this motherboard.

Worse yet, this motherboard has had by far the WORST:
-boot speed (takes up to several minutes in Win7)
-transfer rates for SATA (4MBps for unzip WTH? Transfer disk to disk at 20MBps ??)
-USB transfer (3.0 speeds really stink)
-Random USB dropout
-BSOD errors (AMD RAID controller BSOD every time)
-drivers (yup- the worst drivers I've ever seen... I can't even begin to describe the issues with ASMEDA)
-Freezing during BIOS
-Frequent crashing
-Invalid "auto" settings for CPU voltage with latest bios.

Anyone else have this trouble?

It seems like I have a really trashy motherboard that costs a small fortune.
I'm this close to abandoning ASUS.

Any hope in saving it? I'm planning on either returning it or getting a replacement motherboard.

Browsing the forums it seems that I am not alone with these problems so I will probably return both the CPU and MB and give up on ASUS. Sorry to say it but this has been devilish.

I like the audio and that's about the only good thing I can say. The rest is history. BTY I'm using Kingston Xtreme 1600 DDR3 and 2GB 7870 if you think it makes a difference.

Jedijed .. Welcome to ROG.

But Whooooooa there Big Dog .. on the trash'n my girl V. I can tail you she screams all night,
does anything and more that I ask her and doesn't spec out like yours.

How about a complete hardware list for starters ? You will struggle to find the handful of
the thousands of these motherboards that didn't get sorted quick, fast and in a hurry.
The Others ? ~sigh~ RMA.

Let's get started eh ?
First, is that a fresh OS .. ?
And the memory. Well, yes, that's kinda important friend. If there is any coins in the budget,
upgrade that memory and do youself a huge favor .. and that cpu justice.
AMD builds especially are quarky about memory .. doesn't always play well with just anything.

Next, not that it's vital .. but SSD's boot fast. Putting your running computer to sleep and
waking, faster.
And what bios do you have ? The latest ?
Settings are a snap .. here is an example of what a lil tweak'n can do.

That should be a good start .. .c.

I appreciate the posts guys 🙂

The problem is that this is far slower than my old M4A79T Deluxe.
I tried twice to get a fresh windows 7 install to no luck.

Yes the PSU is good and I am using all of the power connectors. 1000Watt.

And I did some testing and all of the benchmarks I saw showed severe lag in this board for USB. True?
The USB drivers are really terrible.

Today I booted up my computer and it crashed once in POST and now none of my USB ports work so I can't even access the Windows boot, and that was after a fresh install of all the AMD drivers.

I think it's both the board and the CPU which stinks because Newegg makes me pay return shipping.

BTY... what is OMOD-OPROM? Do I need it on? It seems to do nothing for my awful performance.

I'll upload a full spec sheet in a bit if I can get my USB to work. I'm still waiting on ASUS and Newegg tech support to RMA my products.

I wanted to love this board... but this the third AMD board (different models- I just had the cheaper 990fx but the Audio card was bad) I've tried now that is defective. MEMTEST seems to ok my RAM and my HDDs are all good... and I tried both CPUs and various Graphics cards. So it is clearly a MB defect. Again.

So someone else with my setup actually has it working?
And don't blame me not having an SSD- everything works great with my old system- but it didn't have enough ram and my 4 core was getting slow for Pro Tools.

Update: some of my USB ports work in POST, but none of them work in windows... I'm loosing my mind!

It is possible you got a duff motherboard. Most of the time you should just have performance out of the box.

If you have a new PSU and you are using both the 4 and the 8 pin EPS 12v PSU connectors for the CPU then,

RMA the board.

Return the board and the CPU to newegg.

That is not a working system, I do hope you are using a new OS and not just recycling your old OS.
