Newbie Help on OCing 3820 on Rampage IV Extreme

So this is what I currently have:
Intel 3820
16GB of DDR3 1866MHz Patriot Viper 2 Xtreme Div 4. (4 sticks of 4GB each)
Galaxy gtx670 plain reference card. No OC
And an H80 for cooling.

Right now it is running at 3.8GHz with ram at 1866Mhz.

Before I flashed to the newest bios, it used to run at 4.3Ghz and 1866Mhz ram. Just did CPU level up and XMP for ram.

I tried doing that again after flashing to the newest bios and now if I try to set CPU level up, ram goes to 1333. If I try to set ram back to 1866, CPU goes back to 3.8Ghz. What gives?

Can anyone tell me a quick way to hit 4.3Ghz-4.7Ghz with 1866Mhz ram?
I don't really wanna touch much of the settings.

I've seen people talk about BCLK and Multipliers and Voltages and tried to read the Sticky Guide for OC'ing but it just confuses me a lot.

Anyone out there able to tell me what to do? Thanks : )

The easy answer is simply change the Mulitplier in your bios.

Do the following.

In BIOS set XMP as mode of overclock.
Then set 43 as your multi.

Leave all on auto and see if your system is stable. You should be fine.

Okay. I'll try that. Thanks : D

It works! I tried to move BCLK to 105 though. But that made Ram go and reach 19xxMhz. Is that fine?

If your ram can handle it then yes it is fine. Use the memtest86+ guide in my sig to test if your ram is up to the task.

But good that you have made progress. I would suggest using Hwmonitor to keep an eye on your temps while playing a game or some other intensive application. You can have CPUz open to see what your voltages are under load.

But well done.

It it possible to break RAM like this? or will it just become unstable. And in that event, I just clock stuff back down?

I use coreTemp to check temps and use the CPUZ that was given on the rampage iv downloads page.

Coretemp is good.

No you can not break the ram unless you are manually setting voltages way too high. If the memory frequency is too high it will just fall over or bsod. 🙂 No big deal that.

Oh okay. Thanks. You're awesome. Thanks for being a newbie guru.

Vcore is at 1.40V is that okay?

Is that what you have set it too or is that the voltage that is set at AUTO?

If auto then you have your starting point for fine tuning your voltage.

But 1.4 is not going to cause harm. I suspect you can get lower if you wanted to. Try setting your voltage one or two notches lower and testing to see if your system does all the stuff you want it to do.
