Newb Questions OC 4770k

I run a 4770k on a Maximus VI Forumla w/ 8 gig ddr3 2133, and a 4gig gtx760. Iv been trying to push just even past 4.0ghz but when I load up bios it shows the proper voltages and speeds. Windows however shows stock or lower then stock speeds in Realbench and CPU-Z. Also my mem frequency does not seem to run at the 2133, What am I missing? And what can I do to get the most out of my setup. I have played with pc's since first gen core2duo extreme days. Any help is appreciated.

Your CPU needs more voltage than it is currently being supplied.

But in "high performance" mode everything is ok. Even with adaptive voltage set.

And high performance mode keeps your CPU ramped up all the time. It is when you drop down that you do not have enough voltage. Yes?

No. My pc shuts down, when I turn on "AUTO" in AI suite to do casual stuff. But I tried to do realbench video encoding benchmark and it powered off. In high performance mode I passed all stress tests and so on. In high performance mode voltage also ramps up and down. Just like in "auto" mode.

I think problem here is something with power delivery in auto mode maybe.

Yeah I get you.

Thing is I do not like using AIsuite for anything. So I am not the one to help you further here. I would strongly suggest that you do all your clocking in bios.

I do it in bios. But I adjust fan profiles and energy savings in AI suite. I dont use it for anything else. Maybe you know what I could adjust in bios to improve stability power delivery related?

Well when you change things with AIsuite you are making changes to the bios that might (might) negativity impact on the stability of your system. Migrating from Performance to which ever other profile is one such change.

What is your target frequency, idle and load temps and if possible explain why you feel you need to switch between profiles using AIsuite.

We will most certainly do the entire thing in bios.

my target frequency is 4.2ghz. Idle is ~30. Load 60-67 C. And I use profiles just to save power and adjust fan speeds. Just a habbit which I developed.

I hear you. The thing to remember is that if you let the Intel C-States just do their thing on auto you get all that as a matter of course. Talking about the changes in voltage, frequency and therefore if you have dynamic fan settings fan noise too.

So lets start with your 4.2Ghz overclock. List up your voltages that you have changed?

I got back everything back to defaults. Cuz I needed to do some rendering, didn't wanted pc to crash.
