I have recently purchased a new cg8480 and just have a few basic questions

1. How hot should it get (I use real temp and MSI afterburner) (CPU is i7 3770k)
2. What are some good OC tips for the gtx670
3. Any additional tips and advice

Thanks in advance for any help

Welcome to the Republic of Gamers forums, nowimbecomedeath.

1. I'm not sure if you're asking about safe temperatures or the temperatures that you're supposed to get on stock defaults? If you're using the stock heatsink for the i7 3770k, your temperatures when idle should be around 40C or so and when under load, they can get as high as 80C. All of this depends on your ambient temperature of course. As for the GTX 670, it depends on which brand you have. If the card has sufficient cooling, the idle temperature can be anything from 30-40C and when under load around 55C.

2. This is all you need: The GTX 670 Overclocking Master-Guide

3. Read. Read. And read some more. 😛 Make sure you do your homework before taking any overclocking adventures.

im not too sure what brand is of GTX 670 is in the CG8480 but my temps are all in around the ranges you listed except the GPU under load, when running metro 2033 it heats up to 70C and hangs there

Your new system hangs? 70C is fine, graphics GPUs can go up to 90-100C max.
i7-3930K; Asus RIVE; G.SKILL Ripjaws Z 4x4GB DDR3 1866; MSI 7870 2GD5/OC; Crucial M4 SSD 256GB;
Corsair 1000HX; Corsair H100, 4x Excalibur 120mm PWM CPU Fan p-p, AS5; SB X-Fi Titanium Fata1ity Pro;
Dell U2412m IPS 1920x1200; Cooler Master HAF 932 case; Tripp-Lite OMNIVS1500 UPS fully Line-interactive.
(EVGA site: ) And I have a second (wife's) computer, Eve.

Overclocking is useless to me if it is not rock stable.

70 is fine for a 670...if you want it a bit cooler get precision x or afterburner and make your own fan profile if you don't mind a bit more noise.

Don't do this on air... but if you watercool it and want to throw away your waranty... http://www.overclock.net/t/1289489/gtx-600-series-unlocked-voltage-bios-downloads-and-tools
