New to overclocking R4E

Baalberith
Level 7
Dear members,

As said above i'm new to the R4E/Core i7 systems.

building my new system:

Intel 3960X
Asus R4E BIOS 1101
32GB Corsair 1866
Corsair AX1200
Corsair H80

After over a week of letting everything run at stock speeds i started to overclock te system. Currently it runs at
4GHz at a VCore of 1.200v, under Prime95 it drops a liitle towards 1.16v, but systems keeps running fine. This i stresstest
for 30mins.

Is this voltage too low to ensure overal stability in gaming ect? The tempsare avg 51C all the time.

One weird thing i "discovered" was that at AUTO setting, the voltage bumped towards 1.37v at idle??

Are the setting i currently use "good" ones, or do i need to look into stuff a little better?

Many thx for any response and help for a newbie at Intel Core i7's

Welcome to Club ROG

A very good place to start your journey to over clocking bliss is to read the guide http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?5835-ASUS-Rampage-IV-Extreme-UEFI-Guide-for-Overclocking all the cool stuff is in that article.

Take your time and work through it and if you get stuck or need some help with any of the bits, just ask and one of these fine ROG fellows will be more than willing to help out.

Tested new system, all runs rock solid.
Using an overclock of 4.0ghz for 24/7 use at idle temps of 34C, and load of 55C
This all at 1.2v (somehow on auto it wanted to go up towards 1.4v ??)
I Stopped at 4.4ghz for the fun of it, but im sure ill get it much higher 🙂

Used some tips from the UEFI overclock guide, and this is the best build for me ever 🙂
