New system will not boot, cpu_led always red, help plz

HI, put a system together last night and it does not boot up. My system is as follows:

- Asus Sabortooth X79 MB
- Crosair HX750 PSU
- Asus Geforce GTX 680 Video card
- 4 x 8 G Crosair Vengeance 1600
- Samsung 840pro 256GB SSD
- WD 2TB HDD
- Crosair H110 CPU Water Cooler

When I turn on the unit there are no beeps, all the fans, hdd, ssd drive come on. The CPU_LED on the MB is lit red, the systems turns on for almost a second and turns off. Then it turns on by itself, with the CPU_LED still on and no video or no apparent booting sequence.

I opened up the cpu to see if I bent any of the pins on the socket and they were all good. Applied the thermal compound again and reinstalled the H110. Same thing happens again, the CPU_LED light is solid red the systems shuts down as soon as it comes on and then starts up again and there is no video and CPU_LED still solid red.

Also, I noticed that on the two PCI-E connections on the video card there are one LED by each connection and the one on the left is lit red and the one on the right is lit green. I don't know if it suppose to be like that, there is no reference to the LEDs in the user manual.

I sure appreciate any help with this. Thanks

Thank you Arne. I did that, but once in a while both the mouse and keyboard freezes and no matter how long I wait for them, they will not unfreeze. So, I have to push the case Reset switch. I updated all the windows updates. That fixed the problem for the first day or so, then they started happening again. I am sure is some sort of windows usb driver, but what and how to fix it, I have no idea! Any ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated. Thank you 🙂

Glad to see you got the rest of your issues solved.

I once had a cheap and nasty keyboard/mouse combo that did pretty much exactly the same thing ... Caused random lockups.
No name brand (wired) ... only thing on the box was the word SPEED.
Sometimes it would be less than 5 seconds after booting windows occasionally it would be 5 minutes then other times it would last 5 hours.

Went through a whole bunch of trouble shooting, pretty much everything except the first thing I should have tried.

It turned out that swapping the keyboard for a new one completely solved the random lock up issue.
It was either a Logitec or Microsoft one that I replaced it with, these days I'm still using my Razer Lycosa.

I confirmed the issue was being caused by the KB after replacing it and having no troubles for several weeks,
by plugging it back in, within 5 minutes system lockup.
Reset the system put the new KB back in and never had the problem return.

I smashed that sucker into oblivion before I trashed it just to be sure no one else would ever end up with it.
It felt like the right thing to do and was well worth every penny of the $20 that I spent getting it.

The mouse by itself did not cause any issues but I replaced it also anyway.
Still using the first gen of the MS Sidewinder to this day.

Try a working KB / Mouse from a system you know does not have any such issues.

Thanks for the information. Both the mouse and the keyboard are wired and Microsoft brand. The keyboard is MS ergonomic keyboard 4000 and the mouse is MS comfort optical mouse 3000. I tried another mouse and had the same problem. About two days ago I got tired of the mess and connected both the mouse and the keyboard to USB3 connections, instead of the USB2, and I don't recall having any more issues with them. What was funny was that they both freeze at the same time, like windows 7 could not recognized any USB inputs. Well, at least I have not have that problem in two days, hopefully it will continue to be non-problematic. Thanks for all your help guys. 🙂
