New PC Build - Desktop Icons Very Slow to Appear After Boot

I have built quite a few high end PCs for folks over the past 3 years or so and just recently built a new one for myself (see signature below). I thought I'd run into just about every issue possible, until this new build.

Are there any ideas out there what may be causing the desktop icons to take 30-40 seconds to show up after either a cold start or a restart? All drivers are the latest available, the BIOS is up to date (4804) and all Windows updates have been completed. This is quite perplexing and I can't seem to find anything that explains what's going on or how to eliminate the problem.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Doug

its most likely something loading up while explorer.exe is loading as thats what your desktop is

i dont have your exact board or setup but ive noticed on my formula that the asus programs installed change order on every single boot

sometimes as soon as i boot ai suite is already loaded up
sometimes kaspersky is already loaded up
sometimes neither of those load till last and my desktop is already fully loaded

id say you best bet may be alter which programs start on boot

You are right, and I found the problem in Event Viewer... a System Event 10110, DriverFrameworks-UserMode critical error was happening sight unseen. Turns out it was due to a problem with the Zune interface for my Windows Phone USB connection to the PC. I uninstalled the Zune software and all is well.

Thanks for your comments!

no problem, yea icons and desktop are all within explorer.exe so anything the pops in before it loads or while its loading goes first especially if its smaller then the exploer

not to mention as i was saying the order seems to change every boot

glod to see you got it figured out and are up and running good now
