My New build ASUS Maximus VI HERO running win7 64bit doesn't seem to like USB hard drives plugged into it for some reason, I've tried a couple of my USB 2.0 drives in the front USB 2 and 3 ports and they either cause the system to hang or stop responding or take an age to delete anything, I also tried to format an external drive and that also didn't work, All there drives are working fine on my other computers
0804 Bios 6.0.1.7023 Realtek sound 9.4.0.1026 Intel chipset 2.5.0.19 Usb 3 controller 12.8.33.0 Intel lan 12.8.0.1016 Sata ahci controller
And it hasn't made any difference, Plug in a USB hard drive in and it takes forever to discover content on the drive , when it does finally become accessible you click on a folder and then takes an age for it to open, the screen also greys out, sometimes get the "not responding message"
I've tried an old 80Gb external hard drive formatted Fat32 and didn't experience any of the same problems with it, It was seen quickly and files could be accessed with no lag or system hangs, So the problem is down to external hard drives formatted to NTFS, Could it be software or hardware related
I've tried all the USB 2 and 3 ports and all show the same behaviour with all my NTFS drives but not with the FAT32 drive, You said someone was having similar issues, Do you know if they manged to diagnose the problem?
I've just noticed that there is a new bios 0903 has been listed today, (1 Enhance compatibility with some USB device. 2.Revise help string in BIOS.) so will give that a go
Having issues with this board too, but in my case the problem is with the usb keyboard not being recognize on cold boots (only cold boots). I have a Razer Anansi keyboard with lastest firmware. My bios version of Mobo is 0804.
Well, tested with 0903 bios and the issue persists. On cold boots I have to reconnect the keyboard to usb port to get it working again. Please, add the razer anansi keyboard to the list of future usb compatible devices for ta future bios update of this mobo. I had this same keyboard with my previous system runing Rampage III Formula with no issues. Its not a windows issue since I cant enter bios on cold boots.
Bios 0903 hasn't helped my USB devices issue, No problems with keyboards, mice, fat32 memory sticks and external hard drives formatted in fat32, but plug a in an external hard drive formatted in NTFS the "searching for content" box that appears takes forever or just hangs or stops responding, Tried plugging the same hard drives in 3 other computers had they work fine
