New build ASUS Maximus VI HERO with USB problems

My New build ASUS Maximus VI HERO running win7 64bit doesn't seem to like USB hard drives plugged into it for some reason, I've tried a couple of my USB 2.0 drives in the front USB 2 and 3 ports and they either cause the system to hang or stop responding or take an age to delete anything, I also tried to format an external drive and that also didn't work, All there drives are working fine on my other computers

Please install the latest drivers from the Asus site. Also are you using a clean Windows installation?

I'm currently testing the different USB pendrives on the MVIH and they seem to work so far.

Is your system over clocked, in other words what changes have been made in BIOS. If you could do a clear CMOS and check if the behaviour continues.

Another thing you can try is to download the latest bios and extract it to the rood directory of a fat formatted USB stick, then using the EZflash2 tool found in the tools menu of the bios to flash your bios. Even if you are on the latest do a reflash please. Do not use the OS to flash.

System is not overclocked, running on stock settings, only setting changed in bios was to set ram as xmp, Also using samsung ssd magician software, but problem was there before that was installed, will update to latest bios and report back

Updated bios from 0711 to 0804, No change to USB performance, It affects all the ports front and back, Takes ages to search for data on an external hard drive, click on a file and it hangs for a couple of minutes, plugged in a usb stick (it loaded drivers and appeared in "my computer", tried to copy a file to it , "says drive not present"? , Tried all these usb drives on my other win7 pc they work fine and respond quickly, On this pc the usb devices are sluggish and erratic

Is this a new OS or the same one you used on the other system?

However it does sound a lot like what another member is having too.

I have upgraded from an Asus x58/i920 win7 64bit setup and never had these issues with my hard drives and usb sticks, There are 3 other pc's in my house running win7 64bit most running 10 year old hardware and £30 motherboards and there USB performance leaves my new build miles behind 😞
