Need Help With OverClock of Maximus VI Formula + 4770K

Hey Guys, Great Board, Great members, hoping you can point me in the right direction.

Full System Specs:
Cooler Master Cosmos II case
Asus Maximus VI Formula MoBo (flashed with latest BIOS 1408)
Intel i7 4770k CPU
Phanteks PH-F140XP CPU Cooler (Temporary till I figure out water cooling loop)
G-Skill Trident X 2400 ram (2x8 gig sticks)
EVGA GTX780 Ti Classified GPU
Corsair Ax1200i PSU

Just built my new system based on the Maximus VI Formula + i7 4770k build. I am using the ROG parts made for over clocking (Including the ROG Front Base) and have the latest BIOS flashed. With the default BIOS settings my system runs fine, is very stable, and I cant complain about a thing. But I didn't buy the 4770K to run at stock speeds.

I have followed just about every guide I could find on over clocking, and have even tried to use the preset OC profiles in the UEFI Bios. When I make any adjustments to the settings, I get a blue screen of death just as windows starts up. Even if I go into EZ mode and choose ASUS Optimal instead of Normal, I get this error and have to revert back to the defaults.

Is there something I am missing? is it possible that my CPU is one of the very week ones and cant be OC'd? Even when I synchronize my cores and use a 40 as the Core ratio it will crash.

At this point I'm not sure where to start. I guess I'm looking for some direction as to what I should do or look at first? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Thomas,

Check this link for OC'ing that platform: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?33488-Maximus-VI-Series-UEFI-Guide-for-Overclocking&p=26975...

The presets may work or may not... better to learn how to OC manually... - the guide above is a great source for info...

The basic rule of OC'ing is that temps will determine how high you can go... so, for the start check your ambient temp and the system temps - specially the CPU's core temps... based on those we can recommend things to change in BIOS...

Thanks Zka17. Looks like a very in depth guide. just reading through the first part has shown me a bunch of things I have missed. Great place to start.

Thanks again.
