My i7-12700KF overclock

Nate152

Good day ROG overclockers,

I'd like to share my overclock with the ROG Strix Z690-F Gaming Wifi motherboard and the i7-12700KF cpu.

Maximum temps look high in the 80's but these were spikes, it mainly ran in the 50'sc to 70's c.

The IA Limit Reasons showing yes has to do with the Thermal Velocity Boost setting in the bios, I'll investigate this.

The i7-12700KF has an SP rating of 68, cooler rating of 160 - 180.

Updated to the latest bios version 1601.

This was after an hour of playing Cyberpunk 2077.

The P-cores weren't fully stable, I raised the CPU Core voltage to 1.465v with LLC level 7.

After this I was able to get a higher E-core overclock and cpu cache overclock.

I cranked the cpu radiator fans to 100% which is 1500 rpm.

P-core all core 5.3GHz
E-core all core 4.2GHz
CPU Cache - 4.5GHz

5.3Ghz all-core is pretty darn amazing!

5.3Ghz all-core is the best my "now aging" 11600K will do, yet 5.5Ghz Per-Core is very doable. Set 55 clock speed in a single core and 54, 53, 49, 49, 49, or any combination dropping progressively lower each core.

55 55 54 49 49 49

55 54 53 52 51 50

Also if you have 1 or 2 cores that Intel has specified in bios as your "best" cores, you can try a Per-Core like this:

Your best core(s) set to 56 (or 57 or 58) and all the other P-cores set to AUTO, just to see HOW High you can clock your best core(s). 🙂

Per-Core overclocks are extremely fun, and use much less voltage than all-core.

Do games benefit from all-core overclocks? Probably some do and some don't.

Workstations with apps that use sustained CPU loading and processing, I'm certain those machines benefit from all-core OC's.

Hey Brucey,

Yes, I saw per core overclocking in the bios and best core and best two cores for overclocking, haven't tried this.

The cpu core voltage at 1.465v is yellow in the bios so I have room to try for an all core 5.4GHz overclock. With that last test, temps in the high 70's low 80's say it might be doable.

Hello,

Per core OC is the way to go on 12th gen. You can check out the predictions in the AI Tweaker menu.

Hey guys,

I wasn't able to get an all core 5.4GHz overclock stable without needing more than 1.52v and I wouldn't feel comfortable running it there. So, I abandoned that and tried the per core overclocking, this is new to me so any guidance is welcomed.

I kept the same voltage 1.465v - 1.474v and changed sync all cores to per core and set:

Core 1 - 55
Core 2 - 55
Core 3 - 49
Core 4 - 49
Core 5 - 49
Core 6 - 49
Core 7 - 49
Core 8 - 49

I would have thought the cores would run according to how I set them, but HWinfo is showing all cores can run at 5.5GHz, it fluctuates between them. It's not an all core overclock like the maximums make it look.

That's outstanding Nate.

That means ALL 8 of your Pcores are capable of clocking to 5.5Ghz. Only one at a time, lol, but still that's a sweet CPU.

Mine is the same 5.5Ghz, looks like an all-core, yet it's only a Per-Core. 🙂

My CPU only an i5 so I don't receive that "best" core information in the ROG bios.

------

Try to set only one of your two best cores to 56 and the other (7) Pcores to AUTO, leave the voltage right there where you feel comfortable, and see if she will BOOT. 😮

Edit/Addendum: I forgot one tidbit of information. When you're testing CPU cores for highest Per Core and highest single core or highest top two cores, remove all the overclocks from your mem modules, run your memory 100% stock for best results and highest CPU core clocks.

Hey Nate,

Here's my very 1st ever Per-Core overclock way back in 2018, an ROG Maximus Apex X motherboard and 8086K. All using Noctua good air.

5.6Ghz woohoo!

There's 5.7Ghz! 😛

Oh my what's this? That can't be air-cooled, lol 😛
