Maximus X and LLC

Hello everyone!
Recently I slightly overclocked my 8700k on the Maximus X using Raja’s Guide which works perfectly fine. I reached 4.7 Ghz with 1.84V and max temps of 71°C after 1-hour prime95.

What isn’t mentioned in the guide is the use of LLC. I’m using a quite moderate setting of LLC4 (so the adaptive voltage is set to 1.24 and the voltage under load Drops to 1.84). That means there is still a nice Vdroop as a „safety feature“.
With these settings and temps in mind, would you suggest going for higher voltages and frequency for a nice 24/7 oc, or just leave it as it is? Also, would you adjust the LLC?
Thank you for any tips! 🙂

Hello and welcome to the forum!

First of all, your "overclock" isn't really considered an overclock since the stock turbo frequency is 4.7GHz.

Secondly, I don't think you meant 1.84v otherwise you can probably fry eggs on that CPU (assuming it's still alive).

As long as your CPU temps are under 91c under load, you have plenty of room for voltage increases above 1.24v.

Hi! Thank you for your answer.
Well the stock oc is 4.7 on one core. what i mean is 4.7 on all cores...

Ofc i meant 1.184V and not 1.8 😄 Would you suggest going for higher voltages while leaving the LLC around that Level, or would you increase the llc too?

Yes LLC 4 or 5 should suffice with higher voltages.

maximus x hero here z370 and load line level 6 is perfect zero drop zero over volt . as i need 1.28v for 5 ghz and 1.36c for 5.1 ghz so i cant volt drop

Ok. Thank you!
I will try it out and see what I can get out of this CPU

Where are these legendary chips that are getting 5 at 1.28v? Mine is sitting at 4.4LOLS 1.25v and my AIO can't keep up. 80c under gaming load. 81c realbench benchmark, 83 cinebench. I even switched my whole set up into a different room to drop the ambient temp by 7f. Afraid to stress test it. Only posting because i'm trying to reach the same basic 4.7 clock speed, same chip, maximus x formula. LLC 5. If I go above 1.29v It shoots straight past 95c in realbench stress almost instantly. Cant even use prime95, instant crash.

This is my 3rd 8700k

i delided my 8700k and im using a after market copper ihs .
my cooler is 10 year old thermal take true black 120 ( looks like a black hyper 212 but lil thicker ) 2 x 12 mm fans on it

my 8700k needs 1.265 - 1.28 v to pass prime 95 26.6 small ffts and blend
temps on my air cooler after 3 hrs highest core hit 82 c thats peak .

if i was not delided i would need water cooling for sure .

i can run 5.1 ghz @ 1.34 v and pass prime 95 26. small ffts and i hit about 84 c max .

no avx offset and this is with my ram @ 4000 mhz and vccio and vcssa are @ 1.21v so that adds a little heat .

its just luck on the chip and once you delid it gets better .

if it makes you feel better my first 8700k at launch needed 1.37v for 5 ghz to pass prime 95 26.6 small ffts

2nd needed 1.26v for 5 ghz and 5.2 ghz needed 1,41 v

3rd is as good as my 2nd but 5.2 gzh needs 1.42 v

Nah waste of money since the 9900k is out and 9900ks is on the way
Would be a waste. Thanks though . 8700k and 8086k are a bottle neck in a few games . Waiting for the 9900ks
