Maximus VII Hero Ram issues

Hello All,

After removing a Corsair H55 CPU AIO cooler and replacing it with a Kraken X61 my system wont boot. It will start briefly and shut down and restart repeatedly before getting a 55 Q-code.

Everything worked normally before the heat sink change. Nothing else was changed.

The RAM is 2 sticks of Hyper X 8GB 1866.

CPU i7 4970k 64 bit

Removing one stick allows the computer to start normally. Either stick will work individually but not both.

There are not bent or damaged contacts on the mobo or RAM sticks.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for any help

Hello Pharaoh1 and welcome

If all was working before and all you did was a heat sink change, it might indicate you have the cooler/waterblock a little too tight.

Sometimes uneven pressure on the cpu can cause code 55. Try loosening your waterblock a touch.

I tried that, didn't work. Backed off all four nuts in stages and tried starting with the second mem stick. No luck

You know just yesterday one of our ROG friends was having a similar issue and reseating the cpu solved it for him.

Maybe give that a try.
