Maximus VI Hero: Rear Audio 5.1 Not Working w/ Headphones!

Alright, so I have the Maximus VI Hero, and since I purchased it in September, I have had an issue with the rear audio panel. I have a pair of Turtle Beach DX12's. These headphones have two options for connection. First, via the green (audio) and pink (mic) RCA plugs, and second via Optical Toslink and USB (this is used for the Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound for Xbox 360). The problem I'm having is this: When I connect my green/pink RCA's to the front panel, Realteks HD Sound Manager automatically detects them. Once assigned, I can go into the HD Audio Manager and select Stereo, Quad, 5.1, or 7.1. I use 5.1 and it works without a hitch. However I would like to have this headset plugged into the back panel, and when I do so (same connection with green/pink RCA) it recognizes that I have plugged them in, but 5.1 is not available from the dropdown menu. I updated the HD Audio Manager via Asus Support and Download, and then 5.1 became available in the dropdown menu, but no sound is played when you test the center/surround outputs. I then went to Realteks website and updated the audio driver. That is where I'm at now, and now when I test the output for center channel, it plays bass only, and still basically is not functioning properly. Front panel still works fine though. What am I missing or what have I done wrong??? Thanks for your help!

resurrecting this because I just experienced the same exact thing. I believe the onboard sound is designed this way on purpose but I don't know why. maybe somebody from ASUS can chime in? I'm confused on wether or not I should use the front or rear port for my headphones which are ASUS and support 5.1 sound.

went back to front port and enjoying 5.1. I think rear 5.1 only works if you plug each speaker into appropriate port in back.

Hello

The motherboard manual shows a 3 cable connection is needed for 5.1 when using the rear audio I/O ports.

I have a Logitech6-Speaker sound system for PC. Before the new Build I was running this system just fine on my Crosshair IV, now I build a new R7 1700 with the same speakers, and the SIDE speakers and Rear just don't work correctly.

The Sides and Rear are merged but sides are not selectable in the menu at the same time, I also have 3 plugs and as shown for a 6 speaker system in the user guide I am doing everything correctly, still nothing. I just lost 2 speakers just because. Could someone clear this bug for us?

I am running a Crosshair VI Hero (WIFI) on the 1702 BIOS, Audio driver and all other tools and drivers are the latest available on the ASUS download side.

Thanks in advance
