Did you mean:

Maximus VI hero A2 and AE but no display.

I just finished building my system and everything starts up fine, no beeping or anything and goes to a2 or ae which as I understand it is the bios screen or os. But I have no display, I have a GeForce gtx 770 using a DVI-D to the monitor with no adapters, both the 6 pin and 6+2pins from the psu are firmly in place on the graphics card and the fans are spinning. So I'm not quite sure what my problem is.

Did you at any point use the onboard graphics?

Please try your VGA in a different PCIe slot.

If that fails.

Could you try the onboard graphics just to enter bios and set PCIe as your default settings.

But it should just work.

*update* I disconnected the Dvi-d to my computer monitor and did a direct hdmi from my mobo to my tv and the bios is up now with ae. Is there a setting in the bios for the graphics card? Or should I try another slot?

Try another slot, and then in bios go to the main OC page, scroll down until you see the GPU/DIMM option, go have a look if your graphic card is being picked up at all.

Haven't tried another slot yet but the GPU.DIMM post says N/A for gpu, so does that mean my PCIe slot is bad? Will change slots and update.

It just means for what ever reason the VGA is not being picked up by that slot.

Why is what we are trying to work out.

*success!* PCIe slot 1 now recognizes my gpu. I'm curious though what's the difference the first slot says "x16/x8" and the second slot says only "x8". Also is there anything else I need to do before I can boot it up?

The chipset is laid out in that manner, the top slot is 16x.

The only advice I give you is when you install your os, do not have other hard drives connected. Just your OS drive. 😄 Will save you much heart ache later as the OS likes to stick the boot sector anywhere it wants. 😄

Oh and enjoy your system.

Big thanks for all the help but now apparently I have a CPU fan error when I tried to load my windows 8 from disc. Both CPU fan and CPU opt are plugged in and running. The CPU fan I have is a cooler master hyper 212 evo. The opt is just a case fan (rosewill r5 case).

*fixed* had to go into the bios and adjust the CPU fan min speed down to 300. Not sure why but now it's working.

LOL it is working because the min level is 600 for default and many fans run slower than that.
