Maximus vi formula +4770k new build problems

hello,
i just finished the build today and installed windows 8.1 and I have some problems that really get into my nerves.

first of all I went to the device manager and noticed two devices with yellow exclamation marks. some intel bus controller (i think) that i managed to make disappear by installing the intel management engine interface but the second device just wont go. its the SM bus controller and with a bit of research in the forums many people had the same problem and everyone said that it had to do with the management engine and the drivers in the chipset section on the mobo support page. but no one ever said what driver solved the problem. everyone managed to solve it on their own (ex: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?43369-Maximus-VI-Formula-SM-Bus-Controller-driver ) and no one said which driver they installed. I TRIED EVERY DRIVER THERE IS. I'm almost having a mental breakdown over this. Can somebody please provide a link with the driver????? PLEASE.

my second problem has to do with the hard drives. i installed the OS on an ssd and after that I installed a secondary HDD (a westerd digital Green 2TB brand new) and it wont get recognised. it doesnt show up in the BIOS, it shows up in the device manager though as an uknown device (with a questionmark). the HDD was connected on the SATA6G_5 and the SSD on the SATA6G_6 port. i tried and changed the HDD to the SATA6G_4 but nothing. any ideas anyone?

ive spent more than a couple of hours on both problems and didnt find a solution.

and my final problem had to do with RAM. I have 2X8Gb G.skill trident x 2400Mhz installed but on the BIOS they are recognized as 133MHz. The BIOS is updated and stock settings, the XMP disabled (though in any of the two profiles the memory is still recognized as 1333MHz.

I'll appreciate any help and at this point everything is help 😛
Sorry if I sound a bit rude it's just that I had a pretty bad day.

Welcome to the ROG forums, morky.

Windows 8.1 does a good job of installing all the drivers. Only 1 or 2 of them needs user interaction. They are probably the ones you've seeing. The drivers you need are the Intel Management Engine driver and the Intel Chipset driver. Both can be found at the Maximus VI Formula webpage and make sure you download the version for W8.1.

HDDs/SSDs connected to the Asmedia controller don't show up in the BIOS. Since you only have two drives, connect both of them to the native Intel SATA 3 ports for best performance.

As for setting up your RAM, you can have a look at the guide linked in my signature.

Thanks Chino! I can't believe I hadn't seen the Intel chipset driver... Anyway.
about the hard drives, both are connected to the Intel Sata ports and not the Asmedia. the HDD is corectly connected to the PSU and the motherboard. do you have any idea about why it doesnt get recognized? The HDD is this model http://www.wdc.com/global/products/specs/?driveID=1091&language=1

Your second HDD needs to be formatted if its new, while connected you need to format it

On windows 7 it would be right click computer and select manage, not to sure on windows 8 tho

Also most would recommend for best results use the Intel sata ports for your ssd and asmedia ports for storage or optical
Although since you only have 2 drives you can use both in Intel as well as the optical if you have one
CoolerMaster HAF 932 Advanced/ Maximus VI Formula/ I7-4770K/Swiftech H320/ Corsair HX850/ G.Skill Trident X (2x8) 16gb 2400MHz/ 2x 840 EVO 120gb(Raid 0)/ WD 1TB HDD (Backup/Storage)/ EVGA GTX 1gb 560 TI/ Asus 12x bluray combo

I know that. but the HDD didnt show up at all. anyway it was a faulty HDD. i returned it to the store and the new one works fine. all my problems are solved and now im happy again. thanks guys!
