Hey Guys, first post ever on this forum (customer service down till Monday).
I have a particularly weird problem with my Maximus V Gene Mobo that I cannot seem to figure out, or find other threads regarding this problem (with the same type of mobo).
I recently built this system in February with the fallowing specs:
Maximus V gene mobo
Ivy 3570k
2GB Diamond 7870
16gb DDR3 Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz RAM
350gb WD HD with an older 250GB HD as secondary (had to cheap out somewhere..)
Windows 7 home 64bit
Dell u2412m monitor
600W Thermaltake PSU
This is my 3rd build in my lifetime (not new to builds or OCing) and I love my setup, its rock solid.
The problem is that when I first set up my PC, I OC'd my IVY to 4.5GHZ right off the bat with minimal voltage requirements (1.2v, I got lucky on this chip) I never had any instability's and I knew I could push it further but since I didn't need to with current games, I backed the throttle back to 4.2GHZ
A few months later when I tried to overclock the 3570k again, It seems that my V Gene mobo has developed some sort of "memory" that wont allow me to pass 42. I can type in 41,40,39,38 etc and all of the cores will switch to the number I imput. When I type 43,44,45 etc they all revert back to 42 tops, like if its locked.
I've played around with all the different power settings, practically researched all the individual BIOS commands and played around with them, tried 4 different BIOSes (the original, 1604, 1707 180something and 1903) and cleared the CMOS multiple times (obviously)
This kind a sucks because I know I can push this chip closer to 5GHZ on my aftermarket air cooler alone or further with H20 down the road... With this current 42 cap, I ain't feeling to "future proof" lol.
Any thoughts? RMA?
