Maximus V Formula RoG + i7 3770K hang on code 67 - trouble

Hi,

I have a problem with my recently built computer:

Motherboard: Asus Maximus V Formula Rog
CPU: i7 3770K
Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum 2133 MHz CMD8GX3M2A2133C9 (4x4GB)
PSU: 1000W Colermaster Silent Pro
graphics: GTX 580 (taken from my old computer)
HDD: SDD Corsair 240GS

After first start, there was flashing screen (Asus logo) and I couldnt manage get to the BIOS. Computer was starting and turning off. Finally I managed to get to the bios after a long time and number of attempts. Everything looked OK and I started booting system from DVD. Seeing Windows7 screen I was sure everything is ok, aborted installation and decided to go back to the BIOS to have a better look.

After the last restart, computer hanged on Q-code 67 (Processor DXE Initialization) and restarts every 25-30 seconds. I tried to refit all connections but it still hangs on 67 - I didn't manage to get to the BIOS after that.

I tried various number of memory configuration, (1,2 or 4 DIMMs), disconnected HDDs, disconected Graphics card, pressed the cmos button - still error 67.

I reseated the processor - still no change, still bloody 67

Any help?

edit: I might wrongly read the code. Maybe it is b7, not 67. First digit looks like this:

|_
|_|

and in manual it reffers to "B7 - Confi guration Reset (reset of NVRAM settings)"

Have you tried pressing the "GO" button before boot? If you get into BIOS select XMP for your RAM and try that. Make sure the RAM is seated properly..wiggle it to make sure!

Is that one quad kit of RAM or two dual kits? If so separate the kits and start up with one kit first.

Which BIOS are you on?

I also would try a Clear CMOS...

Arne:

-I pressed the GO button couple of times, when I was able to do this, before code 67 (b7) - now it is dead
-I am really pissed of, that at the time I was able to get to BIOS i didn't change memory to xmp
-I wiggled memory many times
-this is dual kit x2. All 4 DIMMs have consecutive serial numbers, which means that they left the factory in that order, and retailer just took two packages x2 from the shelf and sent it to me. I 've tried number of configurations: x1 x2 and x4 with differrent DIMMs
-I'm not sure the version of BIOS - Can I check it on this stage?

-I have cleared CMOS number of times.

Guys,

The problem is, that once I've emigrated to Ireland - one of the most beautiful countries in the world - I realised, that Ireland is also the worst country in the world for a PC gamer.

Back home, in my old country, after experiencing any problems with my PC, there would be a 1000 of friednds coming to me, with bags full of spare CPU's, motherboards and DIMMs, and we just simply would be checking everything, part by part, after the problem is solved.

In here - I am alone.

People in here just not use PCs for gaming - they use PS3 and other consoles. PCs are only used in the offices. Therefore, there is no gaming PC-knowledge, and there's noone, who can just hand me a single DDR3 DIMM, to do a basic check.
There is no "computer-maniac" in the corner shop, knowing everything about the newest stuff.

In this situation - you guys are the only ones who could help!

There should be a white, thin sticker on the right hand edge of the board the last numbers on it should be the BIOS it shipped with....if I remember right..however I'm not sure the shipping BIOS didn't already support the CPU...

However it might be a good idea to use BIOS flashback to try the latest BIOS....

First you could try removing all power and the battery and clearing CMOS that way....

And go with one stick of RAM for now on the recommended slot.

Arne:

The last number on the thin sticker says A02 0502

this version of bios supports i7 3770K, but I'll try to do usb flash with newest 0804

I tkink "clear cmos" button will do the same job as taking off the battery.

It should but sometimes the zero power route gets rid of hiccups a normal clear doesn't.

I would try the latest BIOS

Newest BIOS solved the problem. I simply flashed it from USB, using RoG connector.

Thanks Arne,

^^ Good for you!
FYI: Always update the BIOS as BIOS updates are released to patch up the problems related to previous release.
