Maximus V Formula + 4x4GB Ram 2133 Corsair Dominator Platinum - advice needed

Hi, I am new on this field an I need a bit of advice related to the memory frequency

Mobo: Maximus V Formula
CPU: i7 3770K

The manual of the Maximus V Formula says, that the maximum memory clock is 1600 without OC.
I stick 4x4GB od Corsair Dominator Platinum 2133.
(cycles: 9-11-10-27)

On the default bios settings, the memory frequency was recognised as 1333MHz

I run 3d Mark 11 test, then went back to BIOS, switched Ai settings to XMP ans set memory frequency to Auto - now the memory was recognised as nominal 2133.
I run another 3d mark test and get much better result. So I left is as it is, still having got no idea whether I am doing right or wrong

My concern is: If the maximum without OC on this motherboard is 1600, why can i rum mine on 2133?
Does that 1600MHz apply to the memory different than XMP? and XMP has its own settings?

Should I change it back to 1600, if I don't OC my processor yet?
By the way, the manual of the processor i7 3770K also says, that maximum memory frequency is 1600MHz

Please advise

Hi there 🙂

1600 is the max guaranteed by Intel. At higher volts etc. i.e. overclocking, you can run higher frequencies. XMP is simply an overclock profile. If you go through BIOS looking at the voltages when XMP is set and not you will see differences....RAM timings too.

I think you are good to go! Check up in CPUz that all is running OK if you want.

Don't worry, Badur, 1600MHz is the max suggested frequency of the CPU... - your mobo can handle memory OCs up to 2800MHz according the specs, but in reality perhaps would go over 3GHz... of course, it's a matter of the CPU and the actual memory kit too...

As I said, don't worry! Enjoy your system!
