maximus v extreme sata 3 connections

Hello all, this pc is my 5th build, I have a i7 3770k right now at stock. h100i cooler push pull, nzxt 810 switch case, 32GB Ram Kingston Blu(red covering) and a EVGA 670 gpu. The bios has not been updated to the latest update which is 704 I believe.

I also have 2 250GB SSD's that I am looking to put in RAID 0 configuration.( I have no problem getting into the raid configuration to configure the drives. I also have 1 SSD 128GB that I plan on using for a swap drive. I have a 2tb 7200rpm Seagate drive that I am using for storage. My opitcal drive is blue ray dual layer burner.

The problem that I am experiencing is that my motherboard will only recognize 4 out of my 5 sata connections. I have my 2tb drive and 128 ssd in the black sata connections and my 2 250gb ssd's in the red sata 3 connections. Right now the setting for the sata connections is set to ahci and will not detect the optical drive. When I have all the drives connected to the red sata ports I only see 2 drives. I hope that my motherboard is not faulty and I am just missing a setting to enable the other red sata ports.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

May I suggest that you do the following.

Remove all the hardware from the SATA ports.
Only fit your two SSD drives that you wish to install the OS too.
Ensure they are fitted to the two Intel 6Gb ports - use your manual if you are not certain which is which. 🙂
Install your OS in RAID mode from the BIOS.
Once done fit your other drives. You do not need to change anything in the SATA mode settings.
If you select a non-Intel SATA controller remember to enable that controller.

Done deal.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

I'm not having a problem setting up the raid for the 2 drives, I am having an issue of not seeing all of my devices when they are connected.

edit:

the two black sata ports work and the 2 red sata ports next to them work where I have verified that all the devices work

Yes I am aware of that. My suggestion would have allowed you to set all your devices without any problems at all.

But let us move on ...

I would suggest that the only drive that is in the non-sata ports should be the DVD/Bluray type drives. All the rest would be best suited for the Intel SATA controllers as they are controlled by the CPU.

Could you confirm by looking at the bios screens where you have connected your drives please.

If I'm not mistaken the ports from top are Intel Intel and then AS media AS media...... so five devices.... one of them must be on AS media port....is the AS media controller enabled?

That might be my issue, I will go and look for that setting and enable. I will update and advise. I appreciate everyone's help on my issue.

HiVizMan was saying the same thing....;)

Only two red ports are intel 6GB make sure the SSD raid is on those. The Intel controller will treat the other single drives as non members of the RAID and run them in AHCI mode. The Intel controller has much better latency than the AS media ports so probably best to leave other SSD and the HDD on black ports and put the optical drive on the AS media controller....

Ok I checked my bios and the settings for the asmedia controller were enabled but do not recognize any devices plugged into them. Bios does not see the additional sata ports.

Have you installed the drivers for the Asmedia ports from the Asus website?
