Maximus Hero VII OC help

Hi folks, new here to the ROG community. I recently upgraded my old pc with an i5 2500k and p8z68 v le mobo to an i5 4690k and maximus hero vii.
I have a corsair h100i gtx cooler. Its been a looong time since I over clocked.I was able to get the chip to 4.9 on 1.3 vcore runing Aida64 for 30 mins until I stopped it. I would like to get the chip on a decent overclock for 24/7 use without losing its longevity. The biod is overwhelning. Can some kind soul tell me what to disable/enable step by step?
Greatly appreciated

Hi Santi,

First of all, welcome to the ROG forum! 🙂 I would highly recommend that you stay under 1.25 vcore for the i5-4690K. What idle and load temps are you getting right now at 1.3V? Overclocking is quite safe now that even if your vcore is slightly higher, it shouldn't pose any danger to your CPU as long as you stay under 80 degrees. On air, 80 degrees is definitely the target but since you're using an AIO liquid cooler then you have a little bit more room to play with.

There's a very helpful overclocking video that Linus did, you can check it out and see if it helps you:

I took the chip back to a lower multiplier. It holds a steady 4.3 on stock voltage.not sure if she is a good chip.

Thank you for the reply and welcome! If I stay at or under 1.25 vcore its safe to run 24/7? Just hoping someone with the same board or bios utility can share their settings. With the 4.9 @ 1.3 my highest temp was 58 or so running aida64's stability test for 30 mins.

Unfortunatley I don't own this board or chip, but I did get a few of these chips from Intel during Computex and played around with them on a few boards. An average chip should be able to do 4.3ghz @1.2v and 4.6ghz @ 1.25-1.26v. I had one really good chip and the other three were average and performed around the same. I think you should maybe try for 4.6 @ 1.25v and check to see if you can get it stable at those settings, if not then keep bumping until you get it stable.

Edit: Also the 4.9 @ 1.3 looks pretty decent to me and the load temps are pretty good at 58 degrees. You should have no problems running the system 24/7 on those settings. You just need to test and make sure that the system is fully stable at those settings.

try a stress test that does not only do CPU, but your entire system.

maby start a heavy game benchmark and see how that goes? or the rog realbench stress test?

a 4.4MHZ OC day to day i would say is good, whit a low MHZ on idle ( down clock ( this to prevent over heating coolant on rad ) ).

4.9GHz with 1.30v looks like a golden cpu to me and with temps of 58c I'd try for 5.0GHz. I been running this for the past 4 or 5 months with no problems.
