Longevity while overclocked

My AMD FX-8350 stock speed is 4.13 (according to CPU-Z) with turbo mold enabled. I followed the forum guide Mar. 12, 2013 for O.C.'ing a CHVFZ board to 4.8 (thank-you Marshall). Currently running 4.82 cool and stable. Is there any data or knowledge regarding the life span of the CPU when overclocking. If no hard data, maybe theory? I'm sure there are a lot of variables and may difficult/impossible to nail down. I guess I'm curious if I were to run 4.8GHz 24/7, am I losing months or years of CPU life? Thanks.

Degradation happens the more voltage the faster the degradation, There's no way of really knowing use only the voltage you need to keep things stable.

Add to the mix that no two CPUs are the same, what that means here is simply this. CPU A may run with 1.524 volts 24/7 folding and not degrade at all over 5 years. CPU B however at stock volts degrades with normal limited use. You just can not tell. Bottom line is as long as you are not pushing insane voltage and have good cooling you will get the full lifetime out of your CPU.

If you don't OC your CPU you will want to change it out before long...OCing it might keep you happier with it for longer and therefore extend it's life hehe 😉

Hiviz: I had to look that up (Occam's Razor). I'm impressed you could enter this into a conversation appropriately.
Arne: Very profound statement and likely very much true !!

I love this thinking past 2 dimensions. Goes to show peeps can learn more than "I and "O" here.
Thanks guys (all)

Cheers mate - yeah this is a very good place to hang out. The folks here are class, and it seems that the class people hang around. Hope you do too as you most certainly do fit into the kind of community we are striving for at ROG.

Take care and enjoy your system.
