Laptop docking station?

I bought a desktop computer and don’t need anymore. However, I cannot do much if I wouldn't purchase a docking station to utilize with the laptop.
My real question is there any universal docking station that goes with any laptop. Will the manufacturer make docking station for each specific brand? What should I search for ?

When I searched for laptop docking station, accidentally I found HDD docking station, does anyone know how HDD docking station work? Is that used for cloning?

HDD docking stations are using for cloning drives, they aren't general-purpose docking stations. I would recommend the ones made by Targus, I have heard very good things about them from those I know who own them. They are manufacturer independent, but do require a certain driver to be installed to run the USB video card (you can get extra monitors, but I would advise against gaming on them. :p)
