Issue with SSD failing to be recognized periodically, is it because it's in SATA-E?

Hey all, quick question for you. It looks like all of my OC issues have been worked out now that I bumped the base clock up to 125.

However, I am now having a very odd issue which isn't as annoying, but is still bothersome. My issue is that for some unknown reason, if I leave my P.C. off for more than an hour or so, when I go to boot up my p.c. again, my p.c. won't recognize or see my harddrive that my OS is installed on. It just brings my P.C. right to the bios. If I turn my pc off and back on again, after 1-2 tries it will go to windows. Also if my P.C. isn't off long or it's just a restart, this doesn't seem to happen. As of now, I haven't even partitioned my hdd or my 2nd ssd, so all that really should show up is my 1 ssd with the os installed on it, but it still happens.

I'm wonderimg, could this be because I plugged it into the SATA-E port? I thought that these were backwards compatible, but maybe I was just wrong? Could it be a settings issue?

The reason I used those ports is because even on the standoffs my motherboard is pretty deep in the corsair 500r case, I can only access the top row of sata/sata-e ports.

Because of this, I set up my connections like this:

SATA-E 256GB Samsung 840 Pro (OS INSTALLED ON THIS)

SATA-E 256GB Samsung 840 Pro (Extra disc space, install games, etc.)

SATA-3 3TB stock HDD from older alienware (music, movies, etc.)

SATA-3 CD/DVD disc drive

SATA-3 Very old blu-ray disc player

Any ideas?

What is your base clock strap (BCLK Strap) set to?

Her 2nd sentence she says 125.

But looking at the configuration, I would be more inclined to have the ssds connected to the intel sata 3 ports.

You can change the BCLK without changing the Strap.

I will check and get back to you. I didn't touch the baseclock/strap settings. I just left it at default after enabling XMP, looks like it jumped to 125.00. Also my OC panel readout says BCLK 125.

Thanks. This morning when I booted up I did not encounter the issue. So it looks like switching back to the SATA 3 port worked, and all may fiiiiinnnnalllly be well. 3 motherboards and a lot of posting and research in, but we are finally good I believe! Now I just have to not mess it up haha.

I also realized why my 1st motherboard may have died. It really is just because I am a complete dumby I guess. I was going to plug in all of my cables to the mobo and when I got to my case cables for the front ports, I think I plugged my 1249/firewire cable into a USB 2.0 port. It had the same pin layout so I thought that's what it was, but when I got to my rampage and saw that there was no room, I read the manual and saw that it damages the mobo... darn...

I am having the same exact issue. Which motherboard do you have? I have the X99 Pro. I have two SSDs plugged in the express ports (Sata port 1 and 2 and they periodically work).

3 motherboards in, I do believe it's time to start having fun with your new machine.

I don't think you've done any damage, just don't go connecting things where they shouldn't be. If you think you've damaged the usb port, plug your mouse into it. 🙂

Thanks man I appreciate it.

One last question if you don't mind. It seems like for the most part my CPU is always running at 4.3ghz. Is there a way to make it so when it's at idle or not doing much it goes down to more reasonable speeds? I'm just considering the life-span is all.

Sure, and it's good to be concerned about the life span of your cpu.

If you have speedstep and the c states enabled with the windows power plan set to balanced, this will throttle the speed.

if you want to throttle the voltage you will need to use adaptive or offset modes.
