Irritating Intermittent Issues with my ASUS Maximus VI Hero MOBO

Hi all,

I just got a new gaming rig comprising the following:
Intel® Core™ i5-4670 Processor
(6M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz)
Noctua NH-D14 65.0 CFM CPU Cooler
Asus Maximus VI Hero ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory Low Profile CL9
Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
WD Caviar Black 1 TB 3.5" 64 MB SATA3 (WD1002FAEX) 5 Yrs
Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB GDDR5 PCI-E
LG GH24NSBO 24x SATA INT DVD Writer
Fractal Design Define R4 Black W/Window
Seasonic S12G 750W 80+ Gold PSU
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium OEM(64Bit)
Samsung S24B350TL 24" LED Monitor

It has been working about 2 months now with some strange behaviour. Occasionally while shutting down windows 7 the PC would restart instead. I think i managed to resolve this issue by taking Hvizman's advice and uninstalling the Intel RST that came with the MOBO cd.

However I am still plagued with other intermittent issues. Every once a week or so I notice strange boot up issues. Sometimes the monitor screen will hang about 1 min at POST before booting into Windows(usually takes 1-2s only to boot into Windows 7 logo loading screen) Yesterday's boot issue was even weirder, monitor was showing nothing when i pressed the power button so I disconnected the monitor and connected and switched on and off the power button by holding it down. Also disconnected all my peripherals. Luckily it managed to boot this time round and I think I got booted into windows safe mode where it informed me that the PC was unable to start windows 7. Upon restarting everything was back to normal.

I am thinking it could be my peripherals. So I disconnected my corsair vengeance wireless usb and headset charger. My printer, keyboard and mouse is still plugged in tho(still need those) Gonna see if my comp is stable after removing the wireless headset peripherals.

Is there anyone here who has experienced the same issues as I am? And even better who has fixed it? I am currently using BIOS version 1302 upgraded from the factory version when I started having problems with the shutdown. Would really like to be able to have my PC stable with all my peripherals connected(including my wireless headset) Is there someone who uses a lot of peripherals and has a stable bootup system? If you have a stable bootup system do let me know what BIOS version you are using. Thanks.

Nah no overclocks of any sort. Running BIOS with optimized defaults. Memory is also at default 1333 mhz speed. Was wondering if updating the USB 3.0 drivers would do the trick.

Could someone tell me how to clear CMOS? I tried pressing the button labeled 'BIOS' with some circular arrows on it. But it didn't work

Is it supposed to turn blue and then when it stops blinking I can turn on the comp? I deliberately set the memory to XMP settings but when I got back into BIOS it still showed XMP settings instead of AUTO.

Thanks for the reply abvolt! Yea I have seen this while googling but can't really confirm based on this whether I am resetting correctly or not. When I press the button labelled 'BIOS' it turns blue and blinks for a few secs before it stops blinking and remains blue. Then I turn on the computer and it when I hold down del and brings me into BIOS I still find my old settings unchanged(XMP is still enabled) Thus I am wondering if I did a proper reset and if I did do a proper reset the settings should read off as AUTO instead of XMP.
