Installing Asmedia (sata controller, causes machine not to boot

Hi, I recently put my machine together. However when trying to install the mb drivers, the sata controller Asmedia, causes the machine to subsequently fail to boot. After a couple of tries (it keeps restarting) Windows resorts to offering to restore my machine to the last restore point. Can anyone explain to me what might be going wrong. Sorry in advance for my ignorance.

machine set up:

asus ROG Hero VI
intel core i7 4770k
Samsung 250gb ssd 840
graphics:AMD V4900

You said "trying to install the mb drivers" but if it won't boot, you can't install the drivers. What you really mean is "enabling the Asmedia controller." When you do that, you need to tell the BIOS what device(s) to boot from again. Unfortunately, sometimes it defaults to the one you just added. Set your boot priority again, and also the HDD priority if that is wrong too.

Overclocking is useless to me if it is not rock stable.

May I ask a rather stupid question please? Why would you want to install the Asmedia controller? If possible only use the native Intel SATA ports. They are the SATA ports of choice.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Thanks guys,

I could try HalloweenWed's suggestion, but HiVizman makes a good point. I assumed "enabling the Asmedia controller" was the optimal thing to do, but it now seems that it depends, although i'm still not sure under what circumstances it is useful. If anyone could explain that, I would be very grateful
