Hi, I recently put my machine together. However when trying to install the mb drivers, the sata controller Asmedia, causes the machine to subsequently fail to boot. After a couple of tries (it keeps restarting) Windows resorts to offering to restore my machine to the last restore point. Can anyone explain to me what might be going wrong. Sorry in advance for my ignorance.

You said "trying to install the mb drivers" but if it won't boot, you can't install the drivers. What you really mean is "enabling the Asmedia controller." When you do that, you need to tell the BIOS what device(s) to boot from again. Unfortunately, sometimes it defaults to the one you just added. Set your boot priority again, and also the HDD priority if that is wrong too.
