Instability on new system build w/ Maximux VI Hero

I just built a system and am having some instability I cant narrow down.

Whats happening is in games I get random crashes. Sometimes it just exits the game and there is no error on screen or in the event log. Sometimes I get a BSOD, though never the same one twice so far. Sometimes I get an on screen error that shows up in the event log.

At first I thought it was my video driver as it was crashing to an NVidia dll file. I updated to a newer driver but the crashes still happen and are not always pointing to NVidia files.

I'm using the same HDDs, Video and PSU as before but I upgraded mobo, cpu and ram.

Asus Maximus VI Hero
I7 4470 (stock intel cooler w/ upgraded thermal paste)
16gig ram
GTX 460
Windows 8

I have updated to the latest updates/drivers/bios.
I have not set any overclocking but I'm not sure if this motherboard automatically overclocks at all.
Memtest86 4.20 single pass done with no errors (haven't had time for multiple passes yet)

I tried Prime95 but it causes very high CPU heat that doesn't happen when I'm gaming (games are less than 60c, Prime95 sends it up towards 90+)

Any idea how I can narrow down what is going on?

Did you do a fresh installation of your OS?

Is your system OC in any way shape or form? That includes your memory.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Hi guys, sorry for late reply, the site did not have a login option for me for several days.

I did do a fresh delete partition and format before reinstalling windows after the new mobo etc.

I have currently all default settings in the Asus bios so unless that has some default OC I have not done any.

I also took one memory stick out and reran memtest86+ for about 10 hours with no errors. I'm not sure a reliable way to test CPU. Some tester apps run fine while others just end up overheating though I never see errors.
