Hello and welcome to ROG!

If you replace it with another 2600K(or any other K sandy bridge cpu) it might work. Every cpu is different though, some need more Vcore than others. And some don't OC as good as others. Almost any SB cpu will do 4,6Ghz though but you'll have to fine tune the settings for your new cpu.

Thanks for your assistance
Ok so if I can't get another 2600k and I put in a 3770k it shouldn't. Fry it instantly because of the overclocking?
Also will the turbo button still work?
Thanks

3770k won't work.

Different sockets.

No, same socket, but BIOS might not as it's a custom motherboard for that particular desktop. It shouldn't fry but it might not be stable with the OC button either. Try finding a 2600K or 2700K.

Is it out of warranty? Can't return it to replace the CPU?

LOL pretty sure 2600K and 3770K are both socket 1155

oh wait. whups.

Sorry. I meant the board most likely has a different chipset. I don't know how I mixed up the two.

And like Marshall said, the BIOS likely won't support it.

everyone know that 2600K is LGA 478

but as Marshall said, they clock different.. even tho the voltage deltas is about the same for the 2.

even the 3570K VS 3770K got different bios settings, at the same OC/same bios ver/same board... I refer to the Vcore offset ratio, among some things

try to get a second 2600K thats my advice, you know the CPU and the voltages..Ivy run hotter and heat peak faster than Sandy. and overall require one notch better cooling at the identical OC

If you are into OC, you might want to try Ivy..

Good luck

Both of them are good chips. Sandy and Ivy

I was assuming the chip was 1155 as my motherboard is ASUS P8Z68-V PRO LGA 1155 Intel Z68 please correct me if I'm wrong.
So that being the case the fastest CPU I can put in it I think is a i7 3770k how hard is it to change the bios for a different CPU thx.
