I have a mad overclock on both the CPU and RAM but windows fails to recognize it.

After recently finishing my build I finally decided to stretch it's muscle to see what I could get out of it on AIR. After a successful overclock of my cpu from 3.4ghz to 4.5ghz (at 1.44v down from 1.5v) and my memory from 1333mhz to 2400mhz (at 1.65v up from 1.5v) this system POSTs fine but when looking at the system properties in Windows 8.1 oddly enough it only sees 16GB of my 64GB of memory. Moreover, the system sees my CPU running at 0.00ghz.

I am left to assume that this is just a bug on window's part but what in the overclock would cause a bug like that and is all of my 64GB of memory actually useable in windows even though it doesn't say that it is?

*I will note that CPU-Z detects my CPU to be running at the proper frequency and it also detects all 64GB of memory running at it's proper frequency and at quad channel.

*Speedstep and Cstates are disabled in UEFI as well.

Here are the specs of my system.
-i7 4930K (4.5ghz/1.44v)
-Asus Ramapage IV Black Edition
-G. Skill Trident X 64GB 2400mhz (x2 32GB kits combined) (1.65v)
-Evga GTX Titan Signature Superclocked Edition (stock)
-Mushkin Chronos 480GB slim SSD (Boot Drive)

-Asus Xonar DX Sound Card
-Intel Gigabit CT NIC

I would try re-seating your CPU & RAM as something seems off to me with the missing RAM & CPU readout being crazy.

Look for bent pins while the chip is out of the socket.

Also, combining RAM kits on X79 platform is never a good idea, but my advice for you is this:

Separate both kits into their respective channels -

IE, place all 4 sticks from kit one in the black slots, and all 4 sticks from kit two into the dark grey slots.

XMP will not likely work because of the 2 kits so you will need to set your RAM's parameters manually in UEFI.

EDIT: One more thing, make sure your system recognizes CPU & all ram on stock settings. If it does your OC settings may be messing everything up.

I am aware of the issues tied to combining kits on x79 and I do have each kit into their own respective channel. I have the parameters set manually in UEFI at 2400mhz, 1.65v, 10-12-12-30, 2T. It doesn't appear that the two kits of Ram are fighting with eachother but Windows only wants to see 2 out of the 8 slots. I'll post some photos to show you.

The odd part is when I lower the frequency of the memory to 1600mhz, windows will see all 64GB in sys properties.

I'm not experiencing any odd sequencing issues or random shutdowns. The system seems completely stable other than the cpu and memory readout in sys properties and task manager.

The system is unstable at your chosen overclock and the memory is failing training during POST.

The RAM showing without the overclock confirms my suspicions.

Run it at 1600 or toy with all the settings until it works.

Like I said, using mismatched kits is unsupported entirely (especially at the frequencies you are shooting for) and what you are experiencing should be expected.

Well that is clear sign. Don't combine them. On top of that if you are purely going for high overclock (not 24/7 use), that much ram is causing problems, the strain on the imc is proven to be reason for instability / wierd stuff like you experience. Running 8 to 16 Gb at high frequencies and low timings give a better performance. For normal use, only if you plan to do massive photoshopping or rendering movies... That much team is just sitting there and does nothing...

Just for fun : check your actual ram use (amount used and % of total) during say 24.hours.
You can do that for example with AIDA64 by using the sensor logging option.

After the test period load the logfile in excel and put the usage in a graph of something like that. You will be surprised..

Theres no reason for hostility Necrosan. And furthermore, I didn't ignore most of your post considering I have already checked for bent bins, reseated cpu and memory, and set each kit in a respective quad channel before ever posting this issue online. So yes, I've already ran through basic hardware diagnostic procedures.

There are no bent pins in the cpu socket. Every stick of Ram in the bios is recognized to be working at it's set frequency, cas timings and voltage with the bios also validating each stick to be in proper working order.

Now, I'm going to restore everything to default known good settings in the BIOS to confirm that windows is seeing the CPU and memory at proper frequency and density.

After updating the bios from 0403 to 0602 and leaving everything at bone stock settings, Windows in task manager does see the cpu running at the proper frequency and the same goes for the memory. All hardware is fine.

With that out of the way now it is on to overclocking.

It has been my experience that turning off all CPU power saving features in the bios can help sustain a good overclock on the CPU. Does anyone have any input with respect to overclocking on X79 with whether or not to turn of Power saving features?
