I guess this means my motherboard has failed?

Tonight I decided to format Windows 8.1. I went into the bios and couldn't see my bluray drive. I booted back into Windows to confirm it wasn't there. I reset cmos, no joy. I tried a different sata cable and a different port, no joy. I have power to the drive so that isn't the issue. I then tried a second bluray drive I own and same result. There is no bleep upon boot or any indication I have faulty hardware. I was only using the drive an hour before. What else can I try or is my motherboard now a dud?
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried more than just one extra sata port? Try all of them just to make sure. It could be a few bad ports or the MB could be failing but I'd expect to see other issues too like slowdown and such.

Silly question, but you are plugging it into the top sata ports and not the 3 at the bottom?

Finally got it working. The top 6 Sata ports 4 are Intel and 2 are Asmedia, I already knew that the Asmedia ports don't work for optical drives.

Then there are 4 more sata ports at the bottom (next to 2 Sata express ports). Anyway, all this time by mistake I had it plugged into the Asmedia port near the Sata express ports but I was unaware, but it had worked for a while for some reason.
After it failed, I put it in the next port which was also Asmedia. It wasn't until I read the manual that I noticed the 2 ports were Asmedia and the 2 ports closest to the MB were Intel.
I plugged it into the Intel and voila it was detected again, phew.

The thing that threw me was that it was working all for a while in the Asmedia port (bought the drive a few days ago) until my motherboard decided not to pick it up.
Damn Asmedia ports, why can't they all be Intel?
