Hotwire troubles - need some inputs here...

Hello mates,

I'm starting this thread as could not find too much info about possible hotwire issues with Asus hotwire capable graphics cards and motherboards (RIVE and MVE)... would be nice to have some collections of troubleshooting here on the Forum...

So, starting with my present issue:

I've had one GTX680 DC2T hotwired on a RIVE and was working pretty nice... now I hotwired two other GTX680 DC2Ts - and something didn't went well... I can read the voltages through the OC key, but can not change them (neither in BIOS or through OC key)...

Did the hotwire as before, removed the indicated resistor (PG100), soldered together that enable-thing and added wires to the hotwire points, which are connected to the RIVE's hotwire headers...

The only thing I can suspect now is the RIVE itself... As I said, I did this before with no problems - on an other RIVE... and what could be the difference between the two RIVE boards? The BIOS version! The previous board I had was with the version 1404, this one has 3204 (came with this)...

So, my question is: Does the RIVE BIOS influence the hotwire control? Has someone experiment such thing?

Have there been any other reports on other forums about hotwire issues and that bios Zka?

Does your first card that worked on the old board work on the new board?

I was not able to find anything regarding the mobo's BIOS and hotwire problems... that's why I'm asking...

And my first card is not working either on the new RIVE (with new BIOS) - hence I'm thinking that may be a mobo BIOS issue...

It could be a firmware thing with the OC key. Do you have the correct OC key. If you have both the Maximus and the Rampage boards you must mark them as they are different.

Hm... good point! I have to look into it...

Although if it would be the wrong OC key shouldn't I be able to increase the voltage through the BIOS directly? I did try that (with no OC key) and was no luck...

Also, mixing two OC keys from different RIVE boards could be a problem?

Nope OC key from two RIVE boards would not be problem.

But yeah you should be able to do it via bios...

Try different bios is option B

Yeap, that's what I was thinking too... to go back with the BIOS version... - this will be a long night... 😄

Thank you!

OK, I've got home and started to work on my system... - and have good news and bad news... 🙂

Let's start with the bad ones... first thing I've tried was to look for the OC Key's firmware... well, could not find the present version of it, and also was unable to find and update... was looking on the Asus product page for the RIVE, but absolutely nothing... 😞 So, just gonna use the BIOS...

But, I also have good news! Took out the GTX680s, double checked the solderings (I had to enforce one of them on one card) and switched to the second BIOS chip on the RIVE... - and now everything is working!!!

My GTX680s were never able to reach 1250MHz on the GPUs with stock voltages, and now they're running at 1301MHz:

17794

Yes, everything, except the graphics cards, is on stock yet... and it's just PCIe Gen2... - but at least the system start working!

Now, I'm going ROG'N'ROLL and push these cards to their limits... further result in my thread... (link in the signature)

Awesome Zka, I would like to see results, how many cards you going to run and air or water, I will check your thread. I just removed my blocks and put my 680's back on factory cooling and added 3rd card. before the most noise in my system was the 2 water pumps as long as I had my fans on low speed with controller, WOW I forgot what 3 cards on air cooling sounded like. I don't hear my pumps anymore.

Results are on their way! But now need some sleep...

I also would like to see some results of your 3-way SLI... (and more pics of your setup as I love your case  ) - I'm just playing with this 2-way SLI setup (want to see if I could catch your results 🙂 ), but the ultimate goal is 4-way SLI...
