Help with overclocking

Picasso

I'm continuing a converstation with a fellow member from this thread:

As you can see we where discussing a few different things with my desktop, and the conversation turned towards more overclocking and that my rig may be running warmer then it should currently, possibly due to incorrect settings on my over clock. I said i would post some pictures of my current settings and a kind gentle by the name of Zka17 would help me out.

important points to note is that I am fairly inexperienced with overclocking, and any that I have done occurred a while ago. I now just use a software overclocking solution that game with my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-EX58-EXTREME) called Easytune 6. It's a nice little setup for quick overclocks when one wants a boost. Also, if one can't tell from the first picture, I am use the number 1 (green) overclock, which is suppose to put it at an i7-930. Here are the pics:

I'll just go ahead and say thanks for the help in advance

Hey Picasso! Sorry for being late in this thread... working, you know... 🙂

But I see that two great gentlemen joined, so things can not go too wrong...

Before I managed to go Asus way, I was using Gigabyte mobos for a while... and had the chance to met EasyTune... - I can say only one thing about it: uninstall it as soon as you can! It's my personal opinion... but never had any luck with it... 😞

As previously was suggested, go from the BIOS... it's not too hard and it's fun! 🙂 I've used (still have somewhere) the 920 too - that should go 3.6-3.8GHz with a water cooling setup! At least mine was doing it (C stepping, the worst one) with a H100...

I will have to look for my notes to be more exact, but start with following HiVizMan's advice and read a little bit about OC'ing from BIOS...

Instead of ET, you could use HWMonitor for checking your temps... and download CPU-Z to see where your CPU and memory are...

The really first thing you have to do after uninstalling ET, is to go in BIOS and load defaults... then check the temps... - if they're still like now, you have to stop thinking about OC'ing until you fix the cooling...

Well, alrighty. It looks like I have some reading to do...of which I will get done tomorrow, and maybe a bit on my break at work tonight. Also in the mean-time I will work on getting those other programs up and running, maybe post some more pics with those stats and see what guys think from there.

I also want to ask what you think of coretemp? Have you used it at all or think I should check out the HWmonitor?
At any rate thanks again so far for the help. Hope to continue to hear from you guys through this process. You can probably expect some more updates late tonight or tomorrow!

I've tried Core Temp too, but didn't liked it... actually, now I'm using AIDA64 Extreme for both monitoring a basic stress-testing...

Whichever you choose, just be sure that you have only one temp monitoring software installed!
