Help With 7970 Matrix Platinum Crash on startup.

My new Matrix 7970 is having a weird issue. If it is plugged into the monitor at all during bootup, the monitor will glitch out and only a series of vertical lines will be produced as soon as it gets to the desktop. If I boot up and log in with the monitor unplugged, then plug it in after, there are no issues. This issue only appeared after I tried to use the burn function of GPUtweak. (only a 10MHz increase in core clock) I'm using a MSI Z77-G45, i5-3570K, Samsung 840 series 120gb SSD and Win7 Ultimate 64bit. Any one know what is going on?

Use safemodebutton, se if that helps. If not, switch bios and dont use the Burn button again 😉

Yeah, that burning process may went wrong... I never used it...

Maybe if you could re-flash the card's BIOS to the original one? Maybe re-burn it?

What monitor are you using?

When I tried the burn button, I do belive it went south also. Knew I shouldn't do it so there was no stopping me! 😉

The Safe mode button on the card was sort of like clr cmos and reset everything again if I remember correctly. I realize I've probably had most of the problems people are having, only I was always the one causing them. So backtrack and undo, repeat to confirm. Problem solved!

I also get the exact same behavior that you describe when I bench and am way to "optimistic" about the OC headroom. Locks up system and gputweak is set to remember the settings across reboot. Yeah 🙂

Thanks for all the quick replies guys. I booted up without the hdmi cable plugged in, then plugged it in after I had completely logged in. It worked fine. I then used GPUtweak to "re-burn" it. Success! Build now boots up no problem. Safe to say I will not be using that feature again...

Not to mention a 10Mhz boost is really not worth the hassle....

The 10Mhz was just me testing the feature. I now have the card at 1200Mhz. Love this card. 🙂
