Help!!! New Crosshair V Formula Z not posting. (No Video)

Hello everyone,

I need some help with my new build. First, the hardware:

Motherboard: Asus Crosshair V Formula Z
CPU: AMD FX 8350
PSU: Corsair HX 750
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 (4x4GB)
Graphics: Sapphire HD 7850

So, my problem. I installed everything but I'm not getting any video on the monitor. I read somewhere that I had to update my BIOS. The board says that it's Rev. 1.01 so I downloaded the latest BIOS (1002) from the Asus site and renamed it to C5FZ.CAP. I formatted a USB drive (FAT32) and plugged that into the ROG Connect Port then pressed the ROG Connect button. I waited until the light stopped blinking and then unplugged the USB. Turned on the power and nothing. I should also mention that when I power up the computer, the CPU LED stays lit and the DRAM LED blinks. I'm at a lost at what to do.

As a side note, when I initially got all the parts and tried to set it up, I ran into the same problem. I thought that it might be a hardware problem. I got a new processor and motherboard. I also tried a different graphics card all to no avail.

If someone can offer some insight that can help me I would greatly appreciate the help.

Ok it's just as I thought...you don't rename the BIOS file to a CAP one, redownload the original and try again 🙂 and there is also a newer just released BIOS 1102

Thanks for the fast reply! Are you saying that I should keep the file name in tact when I download it? I will try again with the new BIOS and post results.

Yes you do need to keep it to the same filetype, but i have heard you need to change just the file name, so try it with C5FZ...it should work for you. If you needed to use a CAP file, ASUS would have provided a CAP Converter, which I believe needs to be run from within BIOS first....since there is no CAP converter...there is no need to rename the filetype 🙂 just keep it as rom

Okay, I'm confused. The BIOS I downloaded comes in a ZIP file. When I extract the ZIP, the file is a CAP file. I'm not changing the extension from .ROM to .CAP. Am I missing something? Thanks again for your fast replies.

That is correct. You just need to rename the CROSSHAIR-V-FORMULA-Z-ASUS-1002.CAP file to C5FZ.CAP. Was that what you did?

That's exactly what I did. I tried it with the newest version of the BIOS that I found. After flashing the BIOS, I get the same thing i.e no video output.

Have you tried clear cmos? I had a similar problem after a failed Ram OC were the computer booted til the bios screen but there were no image on the monitor. What fixed this was just press the clear cmos and it worked (This was with an i7 though) Just give it a try 🙂

Welcome to ROG.

Are you sure of the PSU and power connection on the GPU ?
Have examined the pci'e slot for any problem .. and check seating (no offense, blind trouble shoot)
(some time a hiRes pic reveals things the eyes doesnt see .. not likely here .. 2nd board)
What type of monitor ?? is it compatible with straight vga signal ??
Is the board mounted in a case ?? Are you positive of no loose standoffs or screws or edges
touching naughty parts of the MB ??
No led's or codes on the board, just no video ??

Hmmm if that's happened twice with different hardware I would have a very good look at your PSU to make sure it is delivering power to the CPU 8 pin connector....check you have the correct 8 pin cable connected between ATX socket and PSU
