Help me OC X79

Hi folks. New guy who's only increased bclk on the 2011 and the multiplier on the x58 system.

Must've gotten a good chip if I can hit 4.49 on the 980x and run benches without any voltage adjustment,...

Anyway, I have set up a pretty decent rig to try ocing and really need help , but in workman lingo plz.

My system is a 3960x in a Sabretooth board with the Kraken X60 cooler, and 16gbs of Mushkin 2133 Mhz quad channel ram.

All housed in a Lian Li PC V 2120. Now I happen to get hold of 3 titans, to run 3DMark and Heaven BenchMark with, 2 borro

wed.

I'll be running everything at stock 1st and then oced. 4.3 stable for the 3960x is the best I've done.

Considered dropping ram speed to 1333 and leave it there for ocing instead of auto. Thoughts on this?

Atm the board is about to rma, but I wonder if there's a OCing for Dummies page or site.....hehehe.

I posted a question in another thread and didn't want to highjack it.

My ocing skills are on the 1366 setting i7 crazy and adjusting the multiplier,...

My other is 4.3 for a 3960x but with a Sabretooth motherboard and adjusting the bclk I believe.

My grasp on the newer terminology is limited so layman's terms are what I need.

Is there a thread, posting, or site where I can find the basics for say voltage adjustment,.....Ocing for Dummies....:D

From what I've read here it's almost like a fine art.

For example, if I set my ram frequency to 1333 instead of auto would that help?

Voltages look like a step at a time.

Then of course there's ocing the gpus. There's lots of good software available for that.

I managed to borrow a pr of titans for tri sli and will run at stock 1st and then oced.

My system is a 3960x, on a Sabretooth board with 16gbs of Mushkin 2133 Quad channel ram, a NZXT Kraken X60 cooler

with a Corsair AX1200 psu.

I know it's not worthy of a ROG status but it is a good board.

From what my brief research shows, the 1200w should be enough though I imagine it might get a little warm, hehehe.

Roasted Marshmallows anyone?

All this in a Lian Li PC V 2120 case.

Windows is SuperSpeed/Supercache Raid on a pr of OCZ Vertex 3s. Mirrored if I remember correctly. !st time with raid as well.

Works great!

Have you seen these guides fishingfanatic?

They are written for different mother board so some of the BIOS options wont be the same but MOST of the important things will be the same or similar

Also have a look at this video:

By the way, your set up is well worthy of ROG status so do your reading and make it proud....;) The black art thing for OCing....well, it is as complicated as you want to make it and there is plenty of stuff to play with but at the end of the day some of the simplest OCs are the best.

If you have any questions there are loads of folks about with answers so ask away....

The OP post sounds very familiar think I answered this post some place else.

There are many many guides in the Rampage section that you should spend some time reading, they cover basics and more in depth detail if you want it.

Bottom line is cooling in your instance. If your cooler can manage it you will get good frequency.

Here is what I would do.

Mode of OC XMP profile - that sorts your memory out.

Multi set to 42x

Vcore to offset mode
+
0.02

Set your SATA mode if you are running a RAID

Leave all else on AUTO

F10 and save

Now you should have a stable 4.2GHz OC and your ram is running at spec.

If you want more then read and get into your bios and have fun with it.
