Hey guys,

I'm new to these forums and I'm looking for a little help overclocking my computer.
I'm not looking to push it to the absolute limit but I would like a significant increase in performance/power.
Either through the bios or the oc key, whichever works best.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Hello M1notaur

Welcome to the ROG forum.

I can help you overclock your cpu and gpu's but first I have a question, do you really need to overclock anything with four 290x's and a 1080p TV?

Thanks 🙂

haha well it's not really a need as much as I just wanna get as much reliable power out of my rig as posssible. Just looking to get my money's worth ya know. I built this rig when r9's were brand new and worth a bit lol

Well you will get the most performance by overclocking your gpu's but if you use v-sync and are already hitting your TV's refresh rate, you're not going to notice any performance gain.

I use MSI Afterburner to overclock my gpu and it will work for you too, it has onscreen display and you can see information about each gpu while playing games. I installed HWinfo and afterburner can show cpu usage and temps.

https://gaming.msi.com/features/afterburner

I changed the skin to the gaming skin to make it look like this, there are different skins you can choose.

Your place to start would be here https://rog.asus.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?115-Older-Rampage-Motherboards
Read through the guides, heat is your enemy, cooling is very important when you start overclocking any component

Hey sorry for the late reply guys,

I recently had a serious accident in which I broke my back, among other things haha so life has been pretty hectic lately.
I appreciate your help with my rig and I'm still interested in a good high speed but stable o/c.
I know it's a bit much to ask but if anyone can give me a step by step guide that would be very helpful!
It would be good to be able to do the overclocking in the bios but an o/c program would be ok too.

Thanks again guys 🙂

Ufff sorry to hear about the accident M1notaur...hope you are recovering OK

About the OC you should have a look at the page Menthol linked...there is a guide there https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?38018-Ivy-Bridge-E-Easy-Overclocking-Guide-%96-The-Listy-W... but also loads more info

The thing is each CPU is different in what it will run at that there is no real way for us to give you a recipe if you know what I mean...you kind of have to do this yourself bit by bit

One thing....when you are getting to 4 GPUs there is really no point in overclocking them...the throughput from all 4 is so much that the CPU becomes a bottleneck most times...even highly overclocked...it's likely all the extra voltage heat and noise would net you virtually no performance increase

So, I'd suggest leave the cards alone and concentrate on working out what your CPU can do OCd
